recently one of the guys at the local model club died, while the family was going through his things they discovered he had been collecting kits faster than he could build. as a result the local model club received a huge stash of opened or partially complete models, and the new hobby shop across the road from my partners work received all the unopened kits to sell on. while waiting for my partners lunch break i was nosing around and discovered a 1/48 p-26 peashooter (academy i think) and a italeri 1/48 p-47 (kit 805) chief ski-o-watha. so i bought it. $20NZD

Anyone know how old the kit is? Im looking faward to building it. im going to have to get the resin cockpit though, the one that comes with it is terrible. Ill post WIP shots when iget started.
A SWAG says that that is the latest rebox of the old Hawk P-47D kit. That is the only one I know of that had the option of building wither teh razorback or bubbltop variant off the same airframe in one box in 1/48. It is OLD, as in 1960s or so. For an inexpensive kit, go ahead and have fun, it was good in its’ day. But you have a lot of work ahead of you to bring it up to a highly detailed kit.
im aware of that, ive been through the box and it really is basic, but im looking faward to it. its a good oportunity to work with resin and other aftermarket stuff. im also looking at getting an aftermarket engine for it. i saw a full detail kit but im not spending $106 on detail that i wouldnt show anyway, i just want a cockpit and engine. maybe get some brass tube for the gun barrels which i can probably get from work. ill get there eventually lol.
well then you ahve a great canvas to start with. its not a bad kit, and it will lookliek a P-47 OOB. Personally I love those old kits.
thats what im hoping, but its still sad that a local modeler died recently, even if it is good for the local model club and me. dont know who it was. but my condolences to the family.
