The idea for this GB came up twice that I know of and it got a pretty decent response to the idea. Hopefully you still think so.

So without further ado…

Once Were Warriors - 2K7

The build is open to all types of model. It can fly, roll or float (above or below the water)

It is intended to honor the machines that sit proudly reminding us of how they fought, raced or just simply took a family on an outing.

The Rules:

Dates are: July 1, 2007 to July 31, 2008. Gives time to work on current projects and should be enough time for completion.

Subject must be on static display. As mentioned above, it can be anything. A race car, a sub or ship, a plane… anything. There are subjects all over the place. The tank outside the local VFW, the howitzer in the park, a plane in a museum.

Post a photo of your intended subject when you start the build. If you have absolutely nothing like that around you, there are probably countless subjects online. Try a Google search of “static aircraft”… be creative in your searches.

Completed model must accurately depict the as it is on display, not necessarily as it was when it was in use. So there may be “inaccuracies” such as a color being off or a broom stick being used as a gun barrel. So you have to match the paint, at least reasonably close, and use a wood stick for the gun barrel on your model.

The model has to have at least a rudimentary representation of the setting of its final resting place. It can be as detailed as you want. If you want to add the VFW hall the tank is in front of… or just the slab it sits on with the bushes around it, it’s your choice. Get as detailed as you like.

You can use the badge as soon as you sign up.

Sounds a good idea. Count me in on this one. I dont know what i will build, ill decide closer to the time.

Sounds like a good idea. I think i will probably do a T-33. But I need to finish one of my builds and get some cash to buy a kit.

Count me in. Not sure what I will do, but there’s plenty of time to sort that out.

This sounds like a great idea for a GB. I like the twist of displaying it as the aircraft actualy is displayed. [8D] Count me in. I’ll have an idea by the start of what I intend to re-create.

Glad to have you all on board. No worries about not knowing what the project will be yet. I figured that decision will take a bit of time for this one.

Im tempted to do Airfixs 1:24 scale P51d Mustang as Big Beautifull Doll. Im also tempted to do a Old Crow if i am allowed.

8 1/2 months from the start date and your talking mutiple entries… I like the way you think.

I like to plan ahead. It gives me time to clear up other projects and buy in the kits.

Am i allowed to model an airframe that is preserved as a flyer?

Yup you sure can. I am considering a P-51C from the Tuskegee Airmen. This is a shot posted by another member, dragonfly, and I want to do this all shiny and sitting in the museum setting. This plane is also still flying.

I would like to join this build. I’m going to build the mighty mo (Missouri) in her current display in pearl. Now, if I hadn’t lost all my pics I took of her when I visited I would be a happy camper but, my old pc had a melt down [censored] and it had all my pictures from my visit. Now I will need to scour the web for what I need. Guess I’ll be learning how to build water [:)] I’ve never done a boat actually in water.

Hmmmm… I’m very tempted to make the Elefant that is rusting away just down the street from the US Army Ordnance Museum at Aberdeen Proving Grounds. Lord knows I have enough reference photos of that beast. [8D]

The fun part is going to be trying to duplicate that hideous pinkish color and all the rust. I’m looking forward to the challenge however. [:)] I am going to use this as an opportunity to make my first diorama base. Shouldn’t be too hard, just need to simulate gravel and weeds. I’m going to make the Elefant look as close as possible to how it looks now, including missing gun shield, removed bolts on the superstructure attachment points as well as some battle damage (you can clearly see where a shell hit the front plate on the superstructure).
