Right now I have a dual action piece of [censored] aztek airbrush and was wandering what airbrush would be good for someone starting out in airbrushing. Money is a subject depending on how much we are talking about. I mostly do aircraft models, but also dabble in armor and autos. Any help would be appreciated.
I’d recommend that you look at the Badger (or Thayer and Chandler since they are also made by Badger) or the Iwata double-action airbrushes. These are all fine quality brushes that will give you excellent service.
The Badgers appropriate for modelling will run you around $50 to $100 and the Iwata probably $100 to $150 (I’m not real familiar with Iwatas). Prices will vary depending on the model and where you get it, obviously. My Omni 4000 cost $60 from Dixie Art Supply and it will do anything that I want. I already had hoses and a compressor though.
The fact that you are just starting out in airbrushing doesn’t mean anything. Get one now that you can learn to use and get the results you need. Don’t buy a “Beginner’s” brush now and then in 6 months wish you had something better. Get a good quality double action and you’ll never be sorry. Get a cheap one and you’ll be sorry every time you use it.
And now for Salty…
if it were me and i knew what i know now, i’d save my money for the iwata hp-cs friend. you won’t be disappointed. it cost about $105 at dixieart, however, i hear the hp-cr is a fine airbrush though i’ve never used one and is priced at around 60 bucks at dixieart.com. later.
Am I good or what
that is kinda scary jeff…but yes, that was good!!![B)][(-D] i entered that post with 0 replies and before i could get my reply typed, you and scott had beat me to the punch!! too funny. gotta go back to work, see ya. later.

Chris once again lures another poor soul to the dark side.
You should be selling Cadillac’s Bubba. [:D] [;)]
Mike
Mike, Chris has a sixth sense for these things[;)]
Kinda like Superman and damsels in distress.
He can smell someone saving their pennies for a new airbrush from across the globe[:)]
[:p]
you guys are funny!![(-D] i just love my iwatas is all. tweety, what is your airbrush situation now days? later.
Maybe Chris should be Iwata’s…cough…cough…BADGER!!, spokesman here on the forums like MIke is for BADGER. Who knows chris maybe a brand new FREE Custom Micron C Plus with the MAC valve on it [;)].
I can see Chris’ drool forming now.
NOTE- Drool on keyboards may pose electrical shock risk.
That would be the day. [(-D]
I doubt that Iwata would even send you a Revolution if you asked to try one. [:p]
Mike
yeah, iwata dont have to give there products to people or set up reps on forums with 40% discounts or send people on free trips so people will buy them!!![;)][:P] people just down right want iwatas and are willing to pay for them. as a matter of fact, i am drooling cause i’m about to go crank up my iwatas on a cammo job and leave you badger saps over here talking about airbrushing!![:D][:D][^] later guys.
It’s not that they don’t have to, it is that they won’t because they are too cheap!
I think I’ll take my Eclipse CS to work tomorrow and run it over with the excavator just to spite you. [(-D][:-,][;)]
Mike
wish i could run an excavator!! what are ya’ll diggin’ with an excavator? if you want to get rid of it, let me know (the hp-cs that is)!! BTW, how does the sotar like model paints? later.
Chris,
Actually the excavator has a shear on it and I am cutting up scrap pipe. [;)]
I was joking about the HP-CS but if I decide to sell it I will let you know.
The Sotar 2020 with the medium tip/needle handles MM Acryl very well.
I don’t think the fine tip/needle would work real well though.
