I bought a kit (USMC AAV7A1 w/ EAAK ) from MiniHobby Models a few weeks back and just finished building it. I wasn’t all that happy with the quality of the kit. Some of the parts were hard to fit, especially the water jets, and light assembly. The interior had absolutly nothing to offer. The company only has six kits to offer at very reasonable prices. Is this a new company, or have they been around a while?. Has anyone done buisness with them? If so - on a scale of 1 to 10 - how would you rate them?
I don’t have any armor experience with them, but I did buy a 1/700 USS Arizona that is basically junk. There are a lot of fairly obvious inaccuracies and even more minor ones. The moldings themselves are not particulary good either, with depressions and sinkholes. I can’t vouch for the fit one way or the other, because I haven’t actually built it, since it is practically worthless for doing a serious build, in many ways worse than Revell’s old 1/720 offering. I probably would avoid them unless they were to produce a subject that I really wanted that was not offered by Tamiya, Dragon, Academy, Italeri, etc.
MiniHobby is a reboxer of Trumpeter kits. The original Trumpeter kits (sounds like MiniHobby’s line) were really bad copies of Tamiya and Academy kits. Trumpeter moved on to make some nice kits, I bet this company is an outlet for their old bad molds.
your landing craft didn’t turn out to bad! what scale is it?
I bought this kit for two reasons - the vehicle came equipped with the EAAK armor kit and a $26.95 price tag. I guess the old saying, “you get what you pay for,” applies in this case.
Its’s a 1/35 scale and thanks for the compliment. There is a huge amount of room for improvement. My skill level pales compared to what I have seen in this forum. But that"s allright - my ego can handle it. It makes me more determined to improve.
