Omaha beach - Barbed wire 1/72 etc.

I’m going to make a Omaha beach dio and I have some questions.

How can I make realistic barbed wire in 1/72

How can I make realistic casulties or wounded troopers

There is a lot of materials to make realistic water, wawes etc. which one is the best

When the first assult wawe hit the beach at 6.30 the tide was low which means the width of the beach was 200 meters in the 1/72 scale it is 2.8 meters that means the dio will be very big, I’m considering cheating at that point any oppinion to that.

For the wounded troops, some kits contain wounded troops, I have a German set with a wounded trooper. I heard Woodland Scenics EZ Water (or something like that) works well and is available at a model RR store.

A finer grade of mesh would probably be suiteable I would think for barbed wire, just cut it apart ,roll it and glue it down.

Great Models lists a “Barbed Wire & Posts” PE (Photo etch) set
from Accurate Armour. It’s listed as 1/76th scale, but that is close enough.

You get ten barbed wire panels combined with mounting posts and extra strands of barbed wire.

Here’s a pic:

$12.95. Just go to Great Models and search for barbed if you are interested.

P.S. If you get it be careful. It’s as sharp as the real thing.

I’d seriously give thought to doing what you plan on doing in scale. 2.8 meters is going to give you one huge dead space betteen the first troops and the bluffs. Even if you plan on fuilling this with figures, you have a massive amount of space to fill. That is only in one dimension (width, presumably. You still have the depth to consider. You must then consider the question, “Where am I going to dsiplay/store this?”

Making dios on D-days is always a huge project… Given your scale, the size at 2.8 meters is truly huge. But if you do have the space, why not. You might even consider placing it in the museum (if they allow that is)! Good luck on your project [:)]

Sound like a big project! Good luck! I wanted to do one like that once, but it’s alot of $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Well, it would certainly be an awesome display with a little planning… go for it! [;)] [:)]

Take care,

for water, i used this stuff that people who do flower arranging use for fake water in the vase. my only tip with that is to be sure your area to be “water” is completely sealed around the edges. cause that stuff runs all over.

There’s a tip on how to make your’e own barbed wire at amourama.com just search for it, all you have to do is buy the wire in the right gauge and away you go, little bit of weathering perfect, also it’s the cheapest option over here you can pick up a spool of wire for about £4 for about 15yrds.
Scott.

yeah, I tried that. The effect was great.

Time consuming though. But if you have the time, why not. It saves you cash for something else [:D]
