Oldies but Goodies

Hi guys,

I’m clearing out display cases some…these are some old builds that I’m going to be selling. If I can get a few bucks for them, I figure it’s better than just junkin’ ‘em. Most of these were built before 1995–yeah, they’re OLD! No photo-etch here, no indy-link tracks, nothing but some styrene strip-detailing in a few cases. All “old school”. with old-school finishing ala’ Shep Paine–you know; washes and drybrushing, lol. You can see too, that my figure painting skills have improved since then! [whstl]

I apologize if this post sounds like an “ad”–not intended to be. I figured I"d post them up here because: 1) a few USA or British vehicles (which I normally don’t do) and, 2) they’re all relatively “clean” builds–and I normally don’t do those either. Kind of a look-back to my earliest modeling days, when I was rather an “intermediate” modeler, before the FSM forums existed. I thought I"d share them with you all before they go off to good homes. [:)] Hope you enjoy them!

A trio of old Tamiya light tanks.

Old Tamiya M10

Monogram 1/32 Duster

Tamiya Sheridan

Old Tamiya Dodge truck (?)

I forget the name of this weird thing–I built it as an “escorted Engineer’s vehicle” in Vietnam. It’s some kind of obscure company’s M-something-or-other. I’m betting Rob Gronovius will know? [:D] Home-made sandbags there!

Tamiya M577 in Reforger colors

DML JS2 Stalin–this one has indy link tracks and the corrected hull/track clearance.

Italeri Opel Maultier Flak kitbash. This was a conversion that I first saw in one of Shep Paine’s books, and did one myself. I believe that Italeri has since come out with one complete kit.

Russian BMP in Afghanistan War colors.

Flak 37 vignette.

Italeri M109A2

. I like this model so much that I recently bought another to build exactly as-is, but with better detailing, paint, and indy-tracks.

DML Kugelblitz

A trio of old ESCI Pz I variants

Ancient Tamiya Matilda

ESCI 1/72 M113 ACAV

Tamiya Australian M113 variant—I forget the designation.

ESCI 1/72 Sdkfz 7 and 88mm flak vignette

ESCI 1/72 Bishop vignette

Hope you liked them, guys! They’re off to the auction-house to free up some much-needed space in the ol’ display cases! Thanks for looking in! [:D]

Funny you say ‘old school’. I see the Shep Paine style you are talking about.

The painting and weathering looks good! That’s about my level of painting skills, right now [:$] Actually your work looks better. Same as the figures [H]

Pretty cool, thanks for sharing!

Pre-95, I think my first 1/35th kit was around '86 or thereabouts- if I posted what I was building around 95 I’d be laughed off the forum!!!

Very nice collection of good-looking vehicles. Weathering looks great !

Like SprueOne said, that’s about the level of painting skills I’m trying to achieve right now ! [:$]

patience little grasshopper …

A real nice collection in any era,my oldest stuff is circ 1999-2000 right now

I like 'em Karl! Of course I am a big fan of the Shep Paine school. I wish your collection well, wherever they end up…

Out with the old, in with the new!

Doog good stuff there! A lot better than me ( I’m not brave!). That 109 needs new tracks and maintenance to the idler wheel. Sorry, had a motor pool flash-back there. Maintenance on the tracks was a sore back nightmare. Cool stuff! Bob

Nothing like looking at the past. Old school look, but great!

Rounds Complete!!

Am I the only one who saw the guy with the mohawk in the back and thought he looks like Stik in his avatar picture? [:D]

Brian

Hey guys, thanks for all the comments! Man, they’re selling quite well already! I’ve got multiple bids on one, and on 7 others. Cool!

I decided to hold onto that armored supply tractor–I just like all the paraphernalia on it. I’ll probably let it go when it gets more crowded in the case!

Brian, that’s funny–it DOES look like Carlos!

Again, I appreciate all the comments! Thanks again!!

Different style but still excellent builds for sure Karl. I’m sure whomever ends up with them will be very pleased with them.

If I turn out to be half the modeler you are Doog, I’ll be happy. Wow really nice stuff.

Thank you, Josiah, and armornut. I appreciate your kind words. [:)]

These look great Doog - I’m looking forward to the day I’m producing this sort of quality.

I know it may be out-dated and old fashioned, but I personally really like the dry brushing contrast on these vehicles. I love how much it makes raised detail pop, but that’s just my taste.

Chris, thanks for the compliments; I do appreciate that!

Secondly, I have always said that “no good modeling technique should ever be dismissed”. Even though the whole “drybrushing craze/style” of the Shep Paine era has somewhat cooled in favor of the “new weathering”, I totally endorse drybrushing as a valid and necessary step in finishing, It’s just too important to a good finish to throw out as “outdated”.
