Oldest Built Car in Collection

This car is the most “Special” to me. Flash back to Christmas 1990 -just married for 6 months, relocated to a job 3 states from where we were from, and all that other scary stuff of new responsibilities. My lovely wife presented me with a Monogram '69 Rampage Camaro for the holiday . Little did she know what she was getting into by refueling the hobby…By all means this was not built very well - Rattle can paint and good old Tube Glue. The car has a pearl overspray which you can not tell very well due to lack of natural light. (I live in the Pacific Northwest I wont see Sunshine again until May ) Here we are almost 19 yrs and 22 moves later and still on display.

R 2And she still tolerates my modeling and surprises me with new kits all the time, even though the stash takes up one whole room in the house. (hint -when you receive model as a gift, always build it as more will always follow [;)] )Thanks for taking a look at a very amature but favorite build.

This is a great thread. I am SURE that I have some of my earliest models packed in a box in my folks basement. I may have to go over there and dig them out for an embarassing photo session!

my oldest models died a long long time ago [xx(] but I still remember them, my very first one was a 57 Bel Air snap tite kit (I was like… 9~10 at the time) with stickers instead of waterslide decals [(-D] Completely molded in sky blue except the few chrome peices. It did look good though. My dad bought it for me though tryin to get me into cars, and since I enjoyed doing that one he bought me another for my bday shortly after that, the “Paddy Wagon Show Rod” and lets just say it was a failure. Majorly. I didn’t know what i was doing, he didn’t know anything about skill levels… there was glue streaks everywhere, the decals looked horrible and it soon enough fell apart. I still have part of the engine sitting in my parts box though [(-D] I tried several kits back then, and most were failures so I gave up for a long time… kbut somehow it stuck with me and now I have a closet full of models… and more coming to me in the mail so I dunno where I"m gonna put them all [(-D]

Oldest one I still have is a Challenger T/A that I built in the mid 80’s. Used to have a 1:1 a long long time ago!

Silvered the decals something awful. Sorry not a real good picture.

Wow John, That is one Fine Looking Challenger. [tup] I had a 71 metallic green 1/1 briefly - yrs ago. I bought it from the garage I worked at , Found a junkyard shaker hood dropped a 383 in it - headers never got bolted up and the carb was in the box when I sold it to buy a 77 shovelhead.

Uh…I’m not sure I should admit this…[:-^]

I have a pink Lamborghini Countach Lp500…Hey man; it was the 80’s!

[:-^]…[(-D]

Thats Cool, [:O] At least in the 80’s you weren’t trying to be Don Johnson… Post the Pics Doog [8D]

Great thread. This is my oldest surviving build. I was about 17 (40 now) and had just discovered SAE and was inspired by what I saw. This is the MPC 67 Charger modified gasser style like one I had seen in the magazine.

My first attempt at wiring. No laughing now. [:D]

I’ll have to take the photo when I get back home to Pennsylvania in December–it’s down in one of my old display cases!

Not telling my age but I still have my orginal Issues that I built (old Black plastic AMT) Double T ,32, 36 and 40 Ford Coupes, 40 ford Sedan and 49 Ford. One of the two 32 coupes finally fell apart a couple months ago. I repainted it and decaled it into a 60s dirt track racer. Entered it with the new paint and took 1st place in regional contest in the open wheel racer class

PS Almost forgot i also have an 32 Ford roadster without the opening trunk and a 32 Vicky gluing back together now

Wayne

Rob, - That is a Nice [tup] Charger. I remember very well when the model companys had the “straight axle” trend. Who can forget about those “Sky Scraper” front ends. Your wiring does have a little bit of a “Tarantula look” [;)] but it still looks fanstastic ! I stumbled upon the first engine I wired in a junk box not long ago, it was done with sewing thread and then brush painted to get that Accel yellow . I have had pocket fuzzies that looked better.

Wayne, - Post some pictures of those oldies if you got them… Those old coupes are rarely seen anymore. I wish they would bring out some remakes. I found a few yrs back a re-issue of the Monogram Green Hornet ? Remember that one ? I still have the chassis and tub from the original in the parts box. Now I’m aging myself…[:-^]

Summit,

The Green Hornet reissue along with Long John and Sportsman are still avalible along with many other new reissues. The new AMT is back out with a 32 Ford coupe box looks like orginal 60s issue. Also the Coupe and Vicky are back out as a limited run, the box shows as a Jalopy but the kit inside is basicly a reissue Jack at Model Roundup seems to have almost all of the reissues and new kits
