I asked this question on the aircraft were to me the older prop aircraft looks better then the jets.So I pose the same question on tanks.I think that the older tanks just look better.Just look at the King Tiger now that brute just says POWER.I like it for it design and lines of perfection. So what is your favorite and what do you think,Old vs New.Digger
OLD!!! Just looks so cool!
Old, by far.
Enjoy your modeling…
WWII has always held a great attraction for me, so by default I prefer the older style.
Now if I had to pick one to take into combat, well that’s a different story altogether. [:D]
Old, but I wouldnt driving an M1A2 either [;)]
Old. WW2 tanks rock! I think they make much more interesting modeling subjects.
Old for me. I won’t touch anything post WWII. I realise I am being narrow-minded, but all modern armour looks the same to me, and it all looks boring. Who knows, I may change my mind one day.
I think I’m stuck in the Twilight Zone. I think the period between WW2 and now had some good looking vehicles.
M-48, M-60, T-55, T-62, Chieftain, Leopard I series, Type 61 and Type 74.
I must admit that of the two categories the Panther would have to be the best looking.
Regards,
Joe
Old, I think the WWII era stuff is much more interesting
Retro rocks, just like 80’s music. (Please don’t throw rocks) I still find WW II weapons to look cooler than modern. I will say the Abrams is the bomb. Something though about the simplicity of WW II weaponery that just stands out to me.
I really like tanks from the Golden Age of Armor. Tanks from the 1930s and early 40s. They look very primitive and mechanical with all the rivets and flat armor plates.
WWI oddities and multi-turreted monsters rule, as far as looks go by!
OLD - I just ordered an Emhar Mk IV
NEW - I’m currently working on an M1A1HA
OLD - All my builds on display are from WWII
So I guess the OLDs have it.
Chris
Old is best as far as I am concerned although some of the multi turreted of the 20s and 30s are a little hard to take sometimes ( sorry djmodels1999 just me !!)
For me, there’s a depth of character about the WW II tanks that far exceeds anything that comes after. When you look at those old war horses in a museum, you can’t help but wonder what stories they could tell. Kind of like an old Chevy pickup.
I too prefer the older tanks. The recent ones just look so blah.
I find them all to be very interesting.
It’s also very interesting to see how early armor has progressed, and to see where modern armor came from.
It’s the brutish looks of old AFVs that appeal to me. They are just plain ugly when compared to modern AFVs, and that’s what makes them interesting. It’s kind of like having a Bulldog instead of a Afghan. And what could be uglier than this thing?
I think the WWII stuff is more interesting, if nothing else, for its diversity. At a glance from any angle, you can tell a Sherman from a Tiger from a T-34 from a Panther from a etc. The modern tanks seem to have all converged on the M1 Abrams look. The M1A1 is an amazing piece of machinery, but it seems like evrybody’s top of the line tank looks a very similar.
Modern armor seems to follow the pattern of the modern automobile. How similiar are some of the cars out there? You get the drift.
