Does anyone remember the old Robotech or mabe battletech kits of the 80’s?
One that I built had six legs on a tank like body with turret. the body was about the size of a 1/35 scale tank…very cool .
They show up on ebay quite a bit. I was only able to get one of Mech’s before they quit making them. It would be a Battlemaster in 1/72 (don’t remember the Revell name). I also picked up a couple of the scout vehicles in 1/48th. A 6 wheeled ATV and a hover jeep?
I would love to get a few more Mech’s from Battletech in 72nd but the kits on ebay just go for too high a price.
It was from a series called “Dougram” and the name was the 1/72 Dessert Gunner made by Takara. Ebay is your best bet.
The Revell Robotech line of models were taken from 3 series. Macross, Orguss, and Dougram. They were identical to the Japanese kits except for the boxes and instructions for the paint schemes.
I’ve seen it. Akuma, remember it’s not the TV ‘Robotech’ Gwhizz is taking about.
When that six-legged tank appears on Ebay it usually bring in a price of $50.00 or more. I think it was one of the fewest produced of Revell’s ‘Robotech’ line. That may be why Akuma never saw it.
The Helicopter fits with the series (different enough from the Cobra). Think they call it a Duey (duh). Several of the kits came with ground vehicles which were WWII jeeps, trucks, etc but some mounted a huge laser (to make if look more futuristic). Only got to see Robotech on TV a few times (and this was several years ago). Never rented the videos or checked out Dougram.
Still think they should develope a movie or series around BattleTech. Several of the books were really good and the technophiles would eat up the Mech’s.
I know there were at least a couple of low budget movies using the Mech theme (Robot Jox?) but never watched any of them either.
Yup, that’s the Duey. It’s not supposed to be with that kit. Nice little bonus for whoever gets it. Nifty little 'copter.
Allt the anime below have models in various scales of the mecha from the shows in Japan. Only 3 were Revell releases in the US.
Revell’s Robotech is a little different than the TV Robotech. Only about 1/2 of Revel’s Robotech kits had anything to do with the Robotech cartoon. Macross, Orguss, and Dougram.
To further baffle you, the Robotech cartoon was 3 seperate anime shows spliced into 3 generations. Macross, Southern Cross, and Mospeada.
As a side note, there were 2 kits for Mospeada from Monogram under the GO-BOTS line.
All thge kits can be found in their original Japanese release boxes fairly consitently on Ebay.
Hasagawa only does the Valkyries from Macross, and they were released in the later half of the 90’s.
That’s what a Valkyrie is. It’s a tranforming fighter. The Valkyrie has 3 basic forms, Fighter, Gerwalk, and Battroid. Hasagawa’s kits are 1/72 and only the fighter and Battroid are available so far. We can only hope for the Gerwalks.
Fighter= Aircraft
Gerwalk= A plane with arms and legs
Battroid= A humanoid mecha
There are several different VFs. (Valkyrie Fighter)
VF-1A All around soldier, AKA cannon fodder, single laser head
VF-1J A Special Japanese version, Officer, 2 Laser head
VF-1D 2 seat Valkrie, 2 laser head
VF-1S Commanding Officer, 4 laser head
VT-1 2 seat trainer, unarmed (The ‘T’ is Valkyrie Trainer)
VE-1 EWAC bird (The ‘E’ is Valkyrie Electronics)
Each of these VFs can have the addition of extra armor, weapons, and boosters. They are used only in space though. That’s known as a Super Valkrie. FAST packs are equipped to the arms and legs along with 2 big back mounted boosters.
Another version adds a big double barrle cannon to a booster pack. This version is known as a Heavy Weapons Type (HEWAT) or more commonly as a Strike Valkrie.
This covers all the Hasagawa kits that would be found in Robotech. There are other Macross series Valkyries from newer animes about Macross. Macross Plus, Macross 7, and Macross 0 all have Hasagawa models now, but do not have any ties to Robotech, or Revell’s Robotech.
I have the Valkyrie fighter from Robotech. Looks great in the box.
I am going to do a Battletech LAM (Land Air Mech) from House Davion with mine. Got all the decals from Piranha and just need to find some time to get started!
Love to have a couple of Battroids though. A Marauder (Zentaedi Glaug officers battlepod) springs immediately to mind!
Very cool. Thanks for taking us back. I actually have that sand stalker built back in the 80s. It’s sitting in my parts box along with some other Robotech kits like the blue Trigon and a 4-legged variant of the sand stalker. This one has a cannon in the hull like a tank destroyer. I tried to collect them all as a kid.
Mike,
Thanks for the links to the Bromley. The SRM launchers have a crappy fit and didn’t seem to fit with a scout vehicle so I ditched them (actually used one of them on my Moo-rine power armor).
I also swapped the gun for one from the hovervehicle set. Just looked better.
The squat 4 legged guy with the off center mounted cannon is Dougram’s 1/72 ‘Blizzard Gunner’.
The tall 4 legger is the ‘Crab Gunner’, and the Crab Gunner with side platforms mounted to the hull is the ‘Tequila Gunner’. These guys came in both 1/72 and 1/48.
