Hello, thought I’d share my current project with you all.
Here is the last photo I’ve shot. Since then I have added the remaining gear doors and painted the outer wing halves. Im on target to have it done this week.
I have created over 200 parts in details on this aircraft, from gear bay details to exhaust piping and misc doors. This was the first time I’ve ever done salt weathering and made my own tarps, its been a great learning experience!
Appears you have a good handle on it. Goes to show how the Revell kits build up nicely. I have to hand it to you…your weathering is at a very high level…lots of thought going into it. I look forward to the finished bird.
Hans, I had that thought as well, if the wings prove too fiddly I may do that!!
The exhaust streaking was done with a wash, blown back using my lungs and a straw to “focus” the air stream. The staining around the pipes was done by dry brushing and using some #2 pencil.
One HUGE suggestion. I have tried to build this kit three times and each and every time the same thing has happened. The wing hinge piece snaps very very easily. I would really suggest that if you are good with scratch, build a new hinge out of metal or beef it up somehow. Good Luck.
It looks really great so far. I honestly don’t know what Revell’s designers were thinking when they designed the supports to be so flimsy out of the box… When I find one for a decent price I may try one again since it’s one of my favorite WWII birds.
Heh, if you don’t I will, lol… I’ve got a hangar queen of it left more or less in about the same stage as yours is depicted in the first photo… Engine’s gone though…
I’ve always built that bird (something like eight times I think, since it’s “Baa-Baa Black Sheep” release) with the wings extended… Just can’t bring myself to fold the wings on carrier aircraft unless it’s a "hangar deck " diorama… Oddly, I’ve never picked up the original release and “post Black Sheep Re-release” in Ira Kepford’s makings… The box art for Kepford’s Corsair was fantastic!
I once had four of them hanging from the ceiling in a “Finger-four” during my “Black Sheep Phase” when the series was on TV… (Dad and I both loved watching the show, both of us for VERY different reasons…) Had Boyington, Casey, Gutterman, and of course, “TJ” (complete with his five US-flag kill markings, making TJ a Japanese Ace)… His Second and Fifth “American Kills” were Pappy’s aircraft, and he’d wrecked the other three Corsairs, IIRC… He might have shot Gutterman down too… I really can’t remember…
Dunno how TJ ever made it outta P-cola and the N2S, much less gone onto the Advanced training amd the SNJ, and then into Corsairs… He shoulda been issued a steel pot, an M-1, and addressed as “Private Wiley” for the duration…
“Daddy Wiley” musta been blackmailing the Commandant of the Marine Corps…
You dont need to scratch all the parts I did to make this kit a looker. Some time and attention to the visible bits and a knock out finish will still make a nice display bird.
