old modeler new to web site

greetings i am primarly a 1/48 aircraft modeler mostly ww2 era . all my models are made in flight style, i seem to be a minority as far as most models i see in the magazine. are there any other gear up style modelers out there?

Welcome , Brivee…

I am sure there are others here that share your preference…enjoy
yourself and have fun on here!

I used to build “wheels-up” all the time, but I ran out of room on my ceiling and dusting them was a pain in the butt. [sigh] I now prefer the “wheels-down” position because I can emphasis more cockpit details and it’s easier to get them into a covered case or diorama. Every now and then I build a flying version because some planes just look better in flight. (My next “wheels-up” is going to be the Bell X-1…it just doesn’t have the same feeling sitting on the ground.) [2c]

Enjoy the forums !!!

You’re never too old for modeling as it brings out the kid in all of us.

Hi and welcome to the asylum. I use to do gear-up myself. Now I usually just do gear down (when I do planes), for the same reason’s listed by thevinman.

I do them up or down Sometimes I’ll buy two of the same type A/C just for that reason.

Welcome to FSM brivee. The A/C forum may just be the place for you. But try to check out the other forum, too.

Welcom to the site brivee…personally I’m doing a 1/48 gear-up V-tail Bonanza…It’s just so much classier that way…Enjoy the site!!!

Hi ya brivee

Just thought I would toss my [2c] into the fray … and say howdy and … [#welcome] !!!

I used to do both as a kid. First i’d build them in wheels down position and after too many “emergency landings” (i.e. running about the house with it) one of the wheel struts is bound to break, so i chop off the other ones and close the panels… [;)]
