Old M1 and Verlinden M1A1 detail set?

Hi all,

I recently bought Tamiya’s old M1 Abrams kit, the one with the 105mm gun.

I thought about doing an interior for the kit. Would Verlinden’s M1A1 detail set be appropiate enough to use? It’s kit number VPI1967. I realize I need to scratch build the breach.

What do you all think?

Thanks,

Jesse

It would work, but be warned that the Verlinden interior is pretty much fictional anyways. It doesn’t represent any model of Abrams well at all. Most of the exterior fittings are for an M1A1 as well. It would be of limited use at best.

Good luck.

Other than the breach, there isn’t a whole lot of visual differences between the M1 and M1A1 interior when you consider the amount you see through the kit’s turret hatches.

The Verlinden interior is designed to give an appearance of some Abrams interior features when viewed through a pair of ¾ inch hatch openings. I think it does a pretty good job at that.

The interior is designed to be used in the Academy M1A1, but since that kit is basically an upgraded copy of the original Tamiya M1, it should fit with no problems at all.
