Old is still good

Many modelers like to improve old kits with scrachbuild part, resin or PE, but sometimes just out of the box simple is the best way to go.

Like revell’s old 60’s kit still have some attiute, resently I’ve finish Revell’s 1964 P-40 tiger shark (1/48) and Revell’s 1968 Stuka (1/48) and look great without any aftermarkets, with the right tools and techniques and simple hand painted, these build looks great.

(sorry don’t got photos of the finish P-40, gave it to a friend who lived in england during the Battle of britain, thats why I’ve made the plane in RAF uniform, he really loved it)

Other kits like airfit 1/72 mosquito doesn’t have much detail, but it is good for camo practice with airbrush.

And finally a company that few know, its called modelcraft, they make both armor and aircraft, this is the second build I got from them. Noorduyan Norseman was the prefect build as a water plane, and I make it in US army marking, else than the srachbuild interieur this kit is Out of the box, and looks great.

What do you think about old kits? Should they all get modify just to look good, or sometimes just stay the same.

I love the old revell and monogram kits. Done several in the past few months with many more to come. I enjoy brush painting them as well and maybe adding a little extra details. Good stuff.

These are all WIP, correct?

It may say Revell on the box for the P-40 and JU-87 but I bet it still says Monogram on the parts somewhere! Revell had to buy Monogram to have their name on some good kits! If you can’t earn a good reputation you can always buy one if you have the cash!

Sorry if I’m a loyal old fart! Revell kits sucked in the 60’s and 70’s.

Amen!!

I love the old Monogram kits. They were easy to build and looked good and when you were 13 yo that was important. Plus Monogram did kits of planes that other companies didn’t do. I’m about to start on their F-106, not the re-release, but the original release. It may be my imagination but the originals plastic feels different than that in the re-release (I’ve got four or five of the re-release in my stash).

T-Rex,

Please… Before you apply any more paint, fill and smooth those seams, particularly those on the Norseman. Your models will look so much better for the effort.
