Hello. I was wondering, does the old Hasegawa 1/72 P-51D kit (blue nose plane on the cover, black surround on the box (Hasegawa/Minicraft) have recessed panel lines? I am trying to replace all of my old Heller & Airfix kits that have raised panel lines, and I need to know if this Hasegawa kit comes with the recessed panel lines. I know that the recent Airfix J-26 kit came with engraved panel lines, but the kit I am asking about I have just seen at a local flea market, sealed, and I need to know. Thanks for any help!
The original release of the Hasegawa 1/72 P-51D had raised panel lines. It was later re-tooled & released with recessed panel lines. I’m not sure about the kit you describe, but if it was from Minicraft as a distributor, my guess is it’s the older, original release.

Rick, I have the 1/72 P-51D Minicraft kit (#2132) and it has recessed lines. Also has a pretty decent cockpit for the scale. [:)]
Mike, I wasn’t sure how far back Minicraft was the distributor for Hasegawa. It’s been a long time, but then the original P-51D goes back a looong time also. If Minicraft was distributing the newer release, then the blue nose kit may be the newer release. It’s hard to keep track with Hasegawa because of their penchant for reissuing kits with new markings on a fairly regular basis. Not a bad thing mind you, but hard to keep track of which release had what.
