old english furniture for a wash

I read in a past FSM of someone using Old English furniture polish as a wash. Of course now I can’t find the article but what i want to know is if the liquid was thinned and with what? Also were there any quirks as to it;s effect on enamels, lacquer or acrylics?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
