It’s a Japanese naval AA gun, I think, but I thought they came in doubles only. Any ideas?
Is this a mounting of the gun for a fortress or something?
yeah it has that “naval” look to it with that railing I would guess maybe it is a gun for the front of a sub, or light boat

I’m almost sure it’s AAA – check out the binocs mounted on the left-hand side. And the use of the word “type” suggests Japan to me. But I’ve built my share of Japanese ship models, and the AAA are always at least two to a mount. Hmmm …

"Type 88 was used only on two submarines in single mountings. The very similar Type 89 was an AAA weapon used in twin mountings on most World War II ships cruiser size and larger as well as on small destroyers…

Ok, it is a Type 89 12.7cm Japanese Naval AA gun. Most commonly found in a twin mount (even turreted) and even a triple mount on the Yamato til '44. It looks like the single mount was most commonly used on Destroyers.
Do a Google search under the name and you will find several interesting sites including several modeling links (there is a nice kit from Pit Road of a twin mount for only $169.
