I am currently in the final stages of my first model (tamyia 1/48 panzer IV) and have applied an oil wash (figured i’d try as much as possible on my first). Any how, I am wondering how much drying time should i allow before finnishing with a dullcoat. The wash was thinned heavily with turpentine, and has now been on for about 15hrs, and i can still smell turpentine fumes faintly from it. what is the normal safe point for applying dull coat? will the turpentine smell go away when it is completely dry?
it’s safe to dullcoat it now,as a rule of thumb,when it shines it’s wet,and when it doesn’t it’s dry
I’d like to add that this applies to oils only. The smell will go away with time. You can also use odorless mineral spirits to avoid the smell.

The volatility of solvent based thinners dries even oils pretty quickly. The small amount of paint in a a wash should be pretty much dry in a couple hours.
I generally let it sit over night and I’ve never had a problem working with it the next morning.
