I dont have nearly as many references as you guys do collectively, and was wondering where oil would usually spill on a Panzer III. I cant seam to find any tell-tale feal caps on the engine deck. Thanks for all/any help!
The fuel tanks in the Pz III are located in the engine compartment and were accessed via the large rectangular hatches on the rear deck. Unlike the Pz IV, they didn’t have dedicated fuel caps in the hull side and refueling was done by opening the hatches and running a fuel hose directly into the tanks. HTH!
I would imagine that there wouldn’t be as many oil spills on the hatches as there would be on the rear deck itself. Imagine yourself working on the engine: the hatches are open for access an the flat and level surface, relatively speaking, would be the same deck you were sitting on. Placing those oily broken parts. This is the mental approach I take when weathering my builds; How does the object interact with me and the environment? This has helped me with grime stains, chipping, general wear and tear. I hope this helps.

You are most welcome. I should clarify. There could certainly be oil spills on the hatches as the entire rear deck may not be opened up all at once. The hatches just may not have the same concentration of oil on them as the deck. Use your own eyes. How does it look to you? One thing I’ve learned and am continually reminded of is that the more I learn, the more I realize how much I don’t know. I love it.
