You DA MAN…!!! Sweet Hummer. I am finishing up Tamiyas new 1025 as I type[:p].
A few quick questions for ya. Is that one of Tamiyas new kits(did you notice that it did not give you a gas/brake pedal LOL)? How did you replicate the windshield wiper pattern?. Did you use a mask for that or was it done by free hand??
As for the .50 mount, was that an aftermarket part?? I know w/ the Tam 1025, it only allows you to attached the Mk19(I do have the Verlinden AM stuff though)
My subject is going to be based around the first Gulf War or there after. Its going to be basically OOB but w/ a few add ons. The one thing thats going to be different is that I scratch built a motobike rack for the back(ref pix) and will be using Tamiyas newer JSDF Reconn bike.
Anywho for my next project it will be kinda like yours w/ a few differences. Its going to be based on my friends HMMWV who is w/ the 5th SFs unit.

Hi there Butz. Here’s the breakdown of this dio: My reference pictures captions them as mostly of the 5th SpecFor that operated in Iraq during OIF, what a coincidence. The Figures are from dragon & the Hummer is an Italeri 1/35 M998 Desert Patrol altered to look like the one’s that the SF used. So I have to saw off the rear roof & omit the side panels. The stowage rack at the rear of the hummer was scratch built from styrene channels. The ruck sacks, ammo boxes, duffle bags, bed rolls, water & fuel can, helmets came from the Dragon M1A1 HA, Verlinden & Legend kits. The MRE boxes were from Extra Detail. The tarps on the side of the roof were made from tissue paper. The combat identification tarps on the side, front & rear are aluminum foil and lastly, the tie down straps are made from painters masking tape.
I did have some problem with the ground work which was made from Celluclay. The Celluclay took some time to totally dry out & shrunks after it did, since I’ve already put over the ballast I have to re-touch it several times when cracks bagan to develop especially on the sides of the base.
The windshield wiper pattern was masked & spray painted with an airbrush.
The .50 cal MG & it’s mount came with the kit.
And lastly, the spare tires were from a Hobbycraft humvee kit.

Hey again Alex,
For the base you used celluclay?. I actually got the base set up already and I am using play sand(fine grade) that I am using to weight my pick up down for the winter[:p] Its actually funny interms of the technique that I’m using but it’ll be explained when I post my pix hopefully soon.
Its a small world after all aint it!! Where did you get these particular pix from?? Just curious thats all[;)]. My friend sent me a cd full of great ref pix of his hummer(other various Hummers too) as well as other allied vehicles.
So your like me, using a lil bit everything for your builds!! So far I have not used tissue paper/klenex and the like for this one.
I wanted this to be strickly out of the box but as you can tell I had to go and add stuff[:p][B)][;)].
Again Alex thank you so much for the info on the windows and the other items. BTW what did you use for the back section that you scratch built and also what are the side panels made of.
It kinda looks like that you used Evergreen plastic sheet, rod and angle rod.

Butz : It’s my first time to use Celluclay. You could say that I was experimenting, you could use whatever you want for the ground work like clay or plaster. The reference pictures I get from the internet & most of it from militaryphotos. The stowage rack in the rear & the rear side panels (if you could call it panel) were scratchbuilt using Evergreen styrene channels & strips.

I can’t beleive I never saw this thread before! SWEET build! Yeah i reconized those Hobby craft wheels in the back Nice and square on the sides but no tread. They would have been some of the best tires if they had placed the tread on the. I building about 5 differnet Hummers right now including the Italeri Desert Hummer which i plan to paint desert sand and add some goodies on the out side. Did you add watered down elmers to the tissue for the rolls? How do you make the buckles on the straps?
Thanks MGM. Yup, those tarps are tissue paper brushed on with diluted white glue. Those buckles are sheet styrene cut into strips, squared, & glued into place. You could also use aluminum foil for the buckles but I wanted mine to have depth so I used the styrene. Hope this helps. Good luck on your build.[;)]

Sweet HUMVEE diorama! Nice weathering!
I gave it a final spray of dark yellow to make it look dusty/dirty. You could also do it with chalk pastels if you want to depending on your preference.
