Heh. I’m trying to figure out where the devil to start if on a model of my HMMWV, affectionately known as ‘Gutless B*tch’, a 998 two-door with less-than-official armour. If you could call it armour…
Actually, now I think of it, balsa wood might be a nice start.

actually I think that just normal styrene stock would be a better choice if the armor I am thinking of is what you used.
I myself just had a regular M1026 Hardshell. They started to upgrade some of our trucks with the armor kits, but when I got a look at it I and the rest of my crew turned it down. We would be protected, true, except maybe the gunner sticking out the top, but we felt we were sacraficing too much in the way of visibility. and the window didn’t allow much in the way of a field of fire in case we were engaged on the move. And since we were doing escort missions, I felt that being able to lay suppressive fire so we could get they hell out of the AO was an important thing.

Yeah, we were more area patrols.
We did have some sheet metal on the side, but believe it or not, we had a fair bit of wood as well!
