Official 2013 Secret Santa GB

Santa dropped something off late in the afternoon. It’s gonna be the first one I tear open in the morning!

Special thanks to GreySnake for hitting the nail on the head with the Eduard BF-109E-1! This kit has been a favorite of mine and was quite a surprise to unwrap this morning. Thank you so much! Can’t wait to get started on it!

Stu, I’m really glad that you like the 109!

I was really surprised to open this guy today!

Thanks to the Santa from Vermont! You picked out my favorite aircraft and favorite version of the FW-190! Can’t wait to get started, the only hard part is figuring out what markings to put on it.

I had a BIG surprise. My secret santa went above and beyond, and got me a Revell (Monogram) B-25J. But not just any gun-nosed B-25J like I already have, but a GLASS nosed Mitchell!!! I’ve been waiting to get my hands on one of these so I’ll have a place to put this little lady, coutesy of Kit World decals.

I got Italeri’s late Tiger I from my Secret Santa… and Household-6 got me the 77 GMC tow truck [:D]

I managed to figure out who you are so I gotta say THANK YOU for not only the great gift, but putting this thing together.

Grrrrrr… I’ve never had much luck posting pics on here, which is why I don’t very often, but I recieved a 1/48 F-84G Thunderjet.

First off, a big THANK YOU to my Secret Santa for the late Tiger I - I’ve never done a late Tiger. [Y][Y]

And I started the Tiger this evening…

Now I’m off to putty a few seams and work on the upper hull roof.

here’s a quick update…

I’ve got the lower hull together and puttied and installed the torsion bars

now back to the unit research…

Looking good so far Greg!

Haven’t thought about starting my build yet. Need to finish the three models on my shelf yet.

Hey everyone,

Sorry it took so long to post this, I have been a little under the weather (alright, I’ve been laid up for almost a week!).

My Secret Santa from the great state of TN gave me what is my all-time favorite German WWII aircraft…the Ju-87D! Along with some rocking decals!!! Thanks so much Santa! You rock!!!

Nice score on the Stuka Eagle! I built the same kit a couple months back. It went together nice and smoothly, actually one of the easiest kits I’ve ever built. Just don’t be like me and forget to put the radiator in[:|]

Have you picked out the markings for it yet?

Wow! Too bad I didn’t catch this thread before Christmas. Sounds like everyone got some really cool kits. I’d definitely be game if anyone does another Secret Santa GB next year.

Hey Greysnake,

Nope not yet. I might just use this for a GB coming up. Will have to do the research on the units to see which would fit best.

Primed and painted the starting bits of my -109 over the weekend. All the interior parts have a coat of Future curing on them in preparation for a wash. I’ll do this completely out of the box with 1 exception, I have some PE sets from the Royal Class offering of the -109 in my stash. I’m planning on borrowing some cockpit items, IP, Seatbelts, etc. for this one. I’m also going to button this one up. I hemmed and hawed on this as the Eduard kit is really stunning opened up, but I like the yellow nose and want to keep the lines neat. Pics will follow as I progress.

Thanks again for this fantastic kit! The Eduard -109 has firmly entrenched itself as one of my “Desert Island” kits. Right up there with the AM Avenger.

Stu , Really glad to hear you like that Eduard kit. Sounds like you’ve gotten a good start on it so far. Can’t wait to see some pics!

Here’s an update…got the sides and upper superstructure plate on:

most of the engine deck is complete

and I started on the turret

Looking good Greg!

Got the 109 assembled. Now at the seam-correction phase. I did notice a huge D’OH moment. When closing up the fueslage I failed to catch that the piece holding the cooling vents(?-I’m afraid I don’t know my 109 biology ;)) slipped out of place. I’ve now got a bit of a gap between the nose and lower wing. I’ll have to shave some sprue to fit into place and fill in. Kit is so well engineered that I have to “engineer” my own mistakes.

I pulled my Royal Class boxing off the shelf and have decided to go with E-1 markings from this kit. I’ve been hit or miss on my attempts at mottling and the kit is too nice to risk, so I’m going with an early-war scheme with dark greens in splinter pattern with white wing tips and tail.
