Odd......

I was airbrushing with my Aztek A470 and i was painting Humbrol Gunmetal onto my B-17G on the metal parts of the guns. Now heres my problem or sorta dilema…I was spraying it with a Fine Line Nozzle, and of course Gunmetal has flakes in it…too make it shiny or something. It was odd…at first nothing came out when i sprayed and after some time i finaly got it spraying nicely…just like it should…kept spraying…and about when i got to the third gun…it started to sputter just a bit…every now and then. This does not happen normaly…changed the nozzle and it still did the same thing…anyone think that its just a problem with my airbrush…or do these paint flakes in the paint clog up the ol’ airbrush? Just need some opinions or comments if this has happened to anyone else. It was very wierd…anyways i need to get my camera working so i can post pics.

Brian,
Many of those metallic paints do have metalic flakes in them - and those flakes can (and do) settle to the bottom of your paint jar when you’re spraying.
I often add just a little more thinner to some metalics when I spray them, and I also often swirl the paint in the jar to keep the pigments suspended in the carrier/thinner whilst I’m spraying.
Give it a try, it should help.

Had a similar problem a few weeks ago with some gold flake and a fine tip on my Badger 100LG

Never could find a solution.
