Odd question about prices of kits

Hello

I may have a somewhat “weird” question here …

Let’s say you like building aircrafts, and prefer WWII bombers, for example. At a store you see a very detailed and beautiful kit of a F-16 Falcon from a well established company at a ridiculously low price (not because it is cheap but because of a store clearance / sale / bargain bin / etc.)

Would you buy it, for the price factor only, even if the kit is not your favorite ?

No, I won’t buy a kit just because its at a good price. I only buy kits of subjects I have an interest in.

Depends,if I have some interest and depends on how deep the discount.

Example:I don’t build 1/32 but if those Tamiya kits were deeply discounted I might, same thing with some 1/16 armor

Sure!if nothing else it would be good for trades!

Trading is about all I can think of being able to use that kit for. Unless I know some guy that is struggling to buy kits for himself and wouldn’t care what I picked up for him.

One of the benefits of narrowing my collection down is that I can now walk right past even the best deal I see if it is off topic to me.

Five years ago, I would have and did pick up every kit I saw at a good price in my chosen scale.

Rex

Yes I would buy it and either re-sell it, or trade it for something I needed (but then that’s what I’m in the business to do).

Yes I would.

Heck yeah… But then again I do love Vipers.

Sure why not. Would be worth having for future trade, resale or build.

I would hate to not have enough to buy something I want because I didn’t pass on a great deal on something I don’t really want.

Sure… I have done that sort of thing more than once… If and when I feel like " and now for something completely different…" I have a kit right there, just needing me to say when…

Why not? Would come handy when I am tired of building armor. Happened few times so I built few trucks. I also bought a 1:32 because of the price, it is not THAT different then 1:35.

I’ve grabbed a bargain several times. Sometimes I’ve flipped on eBay for a pretty profit, other times I’ve kept it because although the subject is not in my normal realm, it would be an interesting kit to someday get to. The Revell 1/72 scale U-boat is one of those kits I grabbed and kept, also because selling on eBay would incur a bit of a shipping hassle.

Oh ya , If its a bargain you betcha!. I goto second hand stores every week seeing if i can find a bargain. I am trying to build a stash, if something that i usually do not build, i will have something to build off to the side.

I build a variety of subjects in a variety of scales so I would be more susceptible to picking up a bargain kit. On the other hand, I already went through that phase ten years ago on eBay and I’m still building the inventory I built up at that time! I figure in 3-5 years all those models will be built and then I’ll be able to satisfy whatever fancy takes me.

Most definitely I would buy it. You never know when you might want to build it, or you could use it as a gift for someone wanting to get started in the hobby, but doesn’t have have the cash or knowledge to get started. And, as stated many times above, it can come in handy for trades, too.

If the F-16 kit interested me I would. I switch topics frequently.

With all the " VIPERS " out there and so many Blocks ( different variants ) .I would say , yes I would buy it even if it’s not my favorite scale .That way I could have many of the planes and how they are different one from another . .

Not at all. Never.

Let someone who would appreciate it and be thrilled at the great deal buy it and enjoy building it or adding it to their stash!

Not really, because I don’t really like jets. Out of 700+ kits in my stash, 10 or 12 of them are jets (two are old Aurora kits, A 737 and a B58 in off scales and the rest are all 1/72 jets that were operation between 1944 and 1953). Currently the only jet kit that I would like to have is the old Hasagawa 1/32 F-86 (which I once had but lost during one of our moves.
