Yeah, hate that they are sorry Goldminers, but that is who they are for. I am a Werewolf myself. Send me an email with your numbers and particulars and you too can have a Sidewinder HMMWV, we’ll come to an agreement on price.
Yes. The yellow is the team color, the orange is flown during live-fire operations.
Thanks, glad you like them. Yes, the “California” mirrors are now standard on HMMWVs. They have been so from about '98 onward. You can still find some of the older style out there, but they are few and far between.
The “West Coast” style rear view mirrors go way back to around 1992. On my second deployment to Kuwait, I got a brand new HMMWV with less than 200 miles on it. It had those style and I thought they were neat, great for shaving in.
OC is Observer Controller. We are the permanent party trainers for the units that come out here to the National Training Center (NTC) at Ft Irwin ,CA. Units come out for a month at a time to train in the Mojave desert on desert warfare. These are the HMMWVs that we (OCs, trainers) ride around in. The symbol on the rear half-door is the team, the number is your radio call sign. In the case of the above vehicles, the team is the Goldminers, Combat Service Support trainers.
No, it stands for Observer/Controller. They evaluate and guide the units actions.
NTC is the National Training Center, one of the premier armor maneuver warfare training sites in the world. Located at Ft. Irwin in the Mojave Desert in Calif.
Just currious H.A.,are those models going to be used as a training reference by the miliatary or did they go to private buyer ?I ask because i don’t know about these goldminers/goldbrickers.Nice builds, was it monotonous doing that many builds of the same subject? Did you make the symbols on the doors yourself? So many questions.I’ve seen some photo’s NTC and it looks like pretty tough, hot, dusty terrain ,right ?
The models will be farewell gifts for team members who are moving on to another job or post. They will be mounted on a wooden base with some desert groundwork and the NTC patch and a name plate on the base. The Goldminer team is a team of active-duty Army officers and NCOs who train Combat Service Support units that come out here as part of a Brigade who comes here to train in desert warfare. There are O/C teams for each type of unit that comes here. I am on the Werewolves; FA trainers, there is the Cobra team; Armor trainers, Tarantula Team; Light Infantry trainers; Scorpion Team ; Mech Infantry trainers, etc., etc.
The decals were made by me on my computer and printed out on clear, ink-jet decal paper. It was kinda monotonous doing all 4 in succession, but I kinda broke it up and did two at a time.
Yup, the NTC is a pretty inhospitable, barren place, then you have the desert too.
