Obsessions

Does anybody out there have any particular obsessions regarding a specific subject they just have to build. I was recently thinking back to High School and a friend of mine who’s father built nothing but F-4’s. I guess it was a hold over to his days on the Forrestal. I have 3 F-4 kits (2 are duplicates) but this guy had dozens. Any others?

No, nothing that obsessive. However, I do have this thing with the T-54/55. I definitely have to pick up a kit or two more. That, and my t-72 has to be rebuilt.

Not to that extent, no… I’ve built a rather large numbers of Skyhawks and of Komets in my ‘career’, maybe 10 of each, but that’s pale and insignificant comparing to this guy at the local model club who has at least 50 completed Spits…

I’m kinda a P-51 fan. Have built a few dozen over the years in both 1/72 & 1/48, and still have the urge to build some more.

Regards, Rick

I’m rather partial to Phantoms and Tigers, myself. I have multiples of each in different variations.

Like the XB-70, djmodels1999? I’ve been lucky enough to get up close and personal with the only remaining one ( I think ) at the US Air Force Museum. Very cool aircraft!

oooooh there’s a surviving one? I might have to make a trip this summer… I remember reading about them when I was a kid and I fell in love with that plane…

as far as obsessions, no… I mean almost everything I do is PTO but thats just preference…

Yup. Here’s an excerpt from the museum’s info.

The No. 1 XB-70 made its initial flight on September 21, 1964, and achieved Mach 3 flight on October 14, 1965. The No. 2 airplane first flew on July 17, 1965, but on June 8, 1966, it crashed following a mid-air collision. The No. 1 airplane continued in its research program until flown to the Museum on February 4, 1969.

Lionheart, the Valkyrie and I go back a looong way…! I finally made it to see her ‘in the steel’ at the USAF Museum in 1998… I even touched her…! During the same trip, I also picked myself a wife from not that far away from the Museum! LOL

My only regret is that I did not see her (the Valkyrie!) while she was on display outside. She’s currently crowded by too many other planes. I have space in my garden though…

She’s the most beautiful bird (the wife!)…

Huey’s, Huey’s Huey’s, never can have to many(and a few Cobra’s, it’s a Huey to you know)

Helicopters don’t fly, they beat the air into submission

I just started on three lits of the exact same thing that are going to look exactly the same which is just like one I have allready built. Of coarse every one of them has or is going to family members as the kits are replicas of my grandfathers nascar. But I do have an obsession I guess with building the things my grandfather drove.

ok I just realized I am just starting my 3rd SBD with plans to start a 4th and put it in RNZAF markings… maybe it’s an obsession… definitely more than a passing fancy. but I see nothing wrong with it… :::nervous twitch::: [;)]
My uncle flew tail gunner on those in WWII…

about to start ona B26 as well… my great uncle flew on those… ::nervous twitch:: maybe I’ll build two… who knows?

i don’t like to use the term “obsession”, but i’ve been in this hobby since july of last year and have 3 P-51D’s complete (one crashed and burned at the hands of my lovely 3 year old daughter), with 3 more on the bench, and another one in the stash. every time hobby lobby has a 1/2 off sale i’m there buyin’ all the stangs availabel!!LOL later.

you’re kidding right? I’ve seen your work… July??? looks more than that… you gotta knack then brother… I struggle to get the mediocre things I do out…

I don’t have anything that I would call an obsession, but I do have a real fondness for Spitfires. I have already built quite a few of different marks and have more in the stash waiting to go.

I have the opposite obsession. Instead of multiples of one kit, I am forcing myself to make one of each kit that I really want to build before I go back and take another shot at some of my favorites. My whole stash is made up of singles of kits that I’ve wanted to build (Pavehawk, Osprey, Dragon Wagon, etc…). Once I get through all of those, then I’ll have to choose what to go after next.

Hmmm…I probably have about 20 or so Godzilla kits in his various incarnations done…with about 6 or 7 yet to be built…and probably about another 30 or so Godzilla figures of various sizes.
Is that an obsession?
And then of course there’s the rest of the Kaiju Kollection…

It’s funny, I read a lot of military history and autobiography of war-time service so I guess my obsession could be with hardware I’ve just read about. I’ll be starting on an OV-10A Bronco in a few days. I still have to locate and gear up for a Vietnam-era Sherman.

It all depends, I guess, on what I am reading.

I had a Corsair fetish, had to build one of every type in every scale. Now I think I’m going to have a SBD fetish thank to AM.

I apparently have a thing about German aircraft - 11 FW - 190s, 9 Bf109s, 8 Bf 110s, 7 Ju 88s, 5 Ju 87s, 4 Me 210/410s, 3 Ju 188s, 3 He 111s, 3 Fw 200s, plus several different German aircraft that I have doubles and singles of. All 1/72 of course.

I have a thing about P-47s. I have three built…two displayed at a local model shop. One waiting to be finished, waiting for a part from Tamiya that I lost some how. And two or three more waiting to be built. Then I have several decal sheets that will have me building P-47s for years to come.
