NY ANG Phantoms & other Falls Fighters

I’m looking for any info or photos regarding the NY ANG unit based at Niagara Falls, NY. The unit, while equipped with the F-4, was designated the 136th FIS, 107th FIG. In the past the unit had been designated 136th TFS, 107th TFG/TFW and 136th FS, 107th FG and can claim lineage to the 339th FG during WWII.

Aircraft types which I’d mainly be interested in include: P-47D, P-51H, F-94A/B, F-86H, F-100C, F-101B, F-4C/D and F-16A. Other types associated with the unit which I’d be interested in: B-25, C-47 and T-33.

Here’s a shot of some Phalls Phantoms, taken by my Dad in the early-mid-ish 80’s…

I’m especially interested in anything pertaining to ‘660’, which was a triple MiG-Killer F-4C (64-0660) assigned to the unit during the 1980’s.

‘660’ also served with the 58th TFTW, 347th TFW, 366th TFW and 35th TFW; her service with the latter two having taken place during the conflict in Vietnam when she scored her kills, all MiG-17’s.

I’m curious to know what other units ‘660’ may have served with and am seeking to obtain images of the aircraft during it’s entire service life, but especially during it’s time in combat. I’ve been able to find a good number of images on the net, but my serious research is only beginning and most of what I’ve come across is less than what I’d hoped for. (What can I say? I like nice big, bad images!! [:p] )

Anyhoo, ‘660’ was in the old D&S F-4 Part 1, (I think it was Part 1) although in the markings of the 58th TFTW. I no longer have that particular book and if anyone can provide the information from the captions and/or good quality scans of the photos, I’d be most appreciative. (Wayne, I may be asking to borrow your copy…)

Another F-4C MiG-Killer which served with the 136th FIS was ‘541’, (63-7541) which downed a MiG-21 in 1966 while with the 366th TFW. All of the above applies to ‘541’ as well.

And, of course, again, any info or images concerning the Falls unit in general would be appreciated…

Yes, I believe I’ve seen them, most of 'em anyway. And those shots of the F-86’s I’ve been meaning to ask you to bring along on Mondays; just keep forgetting…

Fade to Black…

Wasn’t this the unit that was one of the first tactical units to show up for Desert Storm in their F-16s? Or is there another NYANG unit in F-16s.

Also, you could head to military.com and post on the Air Force forums. Many active duty and retired folks have given me some of the best historical info there.

Sharkskin

Those F-16’s came out of Syracuse.

Hey Steve,
