Now what??

I just picked up the Dragon 1/72 E-100 from the West-Ed Mall (thanks for the suggestion guys!)! The kit looks incredible! Now I want to know how I should build it. Paint it.

I was thinking it would be cool to have it all marked up from shells hitting it, and still have it appear unharmed, with the commander standing on the turret in pride.

What would the most accurate color scheme be?
(man that tank is huge!!![:p][:p])

If you are doing a “what if” scenario, then any late war camo scheme would work. You might even be able to invent your own and put the caption in “In early 1946, the Germans adopted this camo scheme…” You have a lot of artistic license with that. My suggestion would be to look at some late war King tiger, Panther or Tiger pics and do what you like.
Here are some examples

Way to go, Devon, on being able to find ANYTHING in the West Ed mall!! Man, that place is BIG. I went there once and got lost for a week! lol

Brian (J-Hulk) did a fantastic “Urban Ambush” scheme on an E. It was basically a two color grey scheme with ambush “spots” of the opposite color over the base color. It looked terrific. Maybe he’ll post a pic of it here.

As for building, it looks pretty straight forward, but watch out for the little rectangular pieces that go on the four corners of each side of the turret. They are small and tweezerpult readily! I’m either going to have to cast some new ones or just leave off the ones I have left!

Good luck.

Thanks for the photos J-West.

How thick do you think the skirt armour would be? What do you think it would look like if a shell penetrated the skirt? My guess would be that the skirt section would blow off, and the mark would be visible under where it penetrated.

Thanks also for the warning about those recrangles. I noticed that tiny stuff last night! Well, I should do fine on it… I’ve already have enough tiny-part-practice from the tracks on my Kettenkrad[:D]!

Looks like a great kit, and I can’t wait to dive into it!![:p]

The best thing about painting this vehicle is that you can do whatever you like. Before I started painting my E-100, I was going to use the Ambush scheme, Afrika Korps, Panzer Grey or just basecoat it with red primer. If you want to be historically accurate, basecoat it in a green shade and then use dunkelgelb and red-brown as the camouflage patterns. After March '45, german vehicles were supposed to be basecoated with a green color. I am painting my E-100 in the Octopus pattern seen on late King Tigers. Green basecoat, dark yellow camo pattern followed by green circles in the dark yellow. Your imagination is the limit. Have fun!

Erik, I would love to see pics of that when you are done.

I need to post pictures of the E-100 and some other recently finished models. Hopefully this weekend I can get some taken at a model show.

paint it red with yellow polka-dots. no one would ever suspect it was a tank, who’d paint a tank red with yellow polka dots? very effective

Would there be 400 members of the Klownwaffen inside as well??[:o)]
