I’m working on the Tamiya J, so yes, no zim. I got it pretty cheap, but added Cavalier zim, so it’s close to the cost of this kit. No schurzen either.
Now, since they are rattling off zimmed kits, I hope they release a StuG III G Late w/waffle zimmerit.
Didn’t they release the 105 version w/ waffle zimm???
Yes. That is why I thought we would see the Late G soon after. Still waiting…Definitely on my most-wanted list.

I am the proud owner of the unzummed…er… nonzimmed… zimless… oh whatever… the smooth one.
I remember when I did my Tamiya H that deciding on the scheme also meant deciding where the zim would go. Some had it on the all the schurtzen, some only the turret. Some on the glacis but not on the frontal armor. Sometimes on the mud guards and sometimes not. I like having the choice.
I have several non-zimmed Pz. IV H’s… I got the old lady to pay for them, so I don’t feel bad about it.[whstl]
I have the un-zimmed H as well and am perfectly content with it…I also have no problem with DML doing the “dual release” strategy of offering both the zimmed and unzimmed kits. It provides maximum flexibility to those who want to zim themselves (either by hand or using resin/AM zim) vs. those who don’t. Both camps get what they want and DML sells more kits. Win-win. [;)]
I have no problem w/ the varied releases either…and I actually think it is clever and by design that Dragon ALWAYS releases the “least-desirable” versions of each panzer first, and then gradually works their way up to the “most popular”…the best examples of this are their sequencing of the different marks of the Panther, Mk III and Mk IV…for example, they released the short-barreled versions of the Mk IV first, then the early long-barreled version, then the late marks w/o zimm, and finally this zimmed version, which, argueably, is the most popular of the Mk IV family, and certainly, the most-produced during the war…a lot of people bite on the earlier releases because they are so tempting, only to find themselves buying the same mark with zimm later on. Guess which one sits on the shelf…? Very smart marketing…
Just outta curiousity… What’s the price difference of a Dragon “Zimmed” vs “Non-Zimmed” kit of the same subject?

Oddly enough, they typically run about the same in terms of cost…although since the zim kits come out later, the non-zim kits are usually available for a cheaper price by that point in time as a matter of default.
…and to go further, the non-zimmed secondary market price, i.e. ebay, tend to fall after a zimmed release. The newer Dragon Brumbar non-zim is a good example.
