now in living color... my first 2 dio's

so now in living color (hope it works, it previewed ok)

Here are my first 2 attempt at dioramas. The first one is Tamiya’s Kommanderwagon. The bicycle is also Tamiya’s. I have mixed in other matierials that I had as spare stuff. The rock wall in this one is with real stones with their existing patina. I started with a syrofoam base and built up a back wall and then laid in the stone wall and then surfaces with plaster after the stone wall was complete.

The second one is Tamiya’s King Tiger. This model does not come with inside detail other than having seats and nicely detailed inside hatch detail which compelled me to have the hatches open. Then came the problem with open hatches with nothing inside! I fitted a sheet of card stock the bottom of the turret and painted it flat black to just create nul space. This alowed me to put in the seats and I scratch built in a couple control panels and radio. I also scratch built shells in the racks visible through the open loading hatch. Sorry my pics don’t include this detail but when i can take better pictures maybe i will be able to include that detail as well. [:)] I buit this one for my brother who appriciates models but has niether the time nor patience to build them.

My main focus on this two first starts was to create a realistic environment and try and imply that the figures are actually doing something. I have learned a lot in this forum and am slowly trying to build my skils one challenge at a time. Any feed back to make it better or more realisic would be appriciated. Thanks and have a great day.

Hi Paul- I like your dios. Good attention to detail. Points of interest: I like the builds on the vehicles, Tiger well done (is that rear towing shackle unpainted?) and Steyr looks good, too. The brick wall and road look great. Great ground work and trees. Nice bike. All the figures are nice, too… a bit shiney- perhaps another couple of passes with Dull Cote? Maybe that’s just the photo… I tend to get the same polished look in my shots no matter how dulled. I like the poses in the tiger dio. Tool box is cool and so is the instrument box. Scratch buildings look real good. My only other suggestion there would be to dirty-up them barrels; black or burnt umber washes? All in all, great job in both projects. I like your work. Keep going and send more photos. SteveM

The composition of both dios is very well done.

THe finish of the vehicles looks a little flat however.

I like a lot your dios,on the first one i agree that the gas barrels need more weathering,the rest are very good.The second one is great,I love the scenery.

Thanks for all you kind words. I have been working hard on the environments. and SteveM your right! That tow buckle does look unpainted in the pics. Since i built this dio I have been working on being a lot more agressive with my washes. Thanks again.
