Nov. 20th, the day that started it all....

folks:

today ( i believe ) is the anniversary of the Battle of Cambrai…
this was the first time massed tanks were used in an assault role, by the british during ww1.
there was an excellent post by djmodels… “All quiet on the western front… or so it seems” with the history of the battle and a most excellent model of a british mk 1 ( i think ? ) in a small diorama setting.
if u can find the post, it’s well worth a look !

…and thanks for the reminder.

Yep, and they’ve come along way in 80 years.

Thanks for the reminder Frosty and the link DJ

I remember the diorama., very well done. I’ll make a toast to the Battle of Cambrai and the change it forever made on the battlefield.

Hey, those WWI tanks were somthin else. Anyone know of a manufacturer who makes some in 1:35? Or how about any of those crazy French tanks(no offense to any French people reading this) you know the ones with like the old tractor chassis, and the try at making them really powerful-but the nose just always got stuck in the mud-like the Char B? Do they make those in 1:35?

Steve, WWI tanks are manufactured by Emhar, amongst other brands. They have the Whippet, the Mk IV Female and Male, plus the Tadpole, the A7V and are soon releasing the MkV.

Tauro Models also had the German A7V. As to the early French tanks, the Renault FT is also available in that scale (but I can not remember who by). The St Chamond and the Schneider are available in resin.

The Char B1/B1bis was not used at all during WWI, but only appeared before WWII. At the time, it was possibly the most powerful and most protected AFV in the world, but it’s achille’s tendon was the fact the tank commander was also responsible for firing the turret gun, limiting his time in doing other vital tasks… As far as I know, there are sadly no ‘mainstream’ kits opf this vehicle in 1/35, only resin kits that are rather expensive…

The British Mk I Male and MkII Male of WWI had long guns siticking out of the side sponsons and those often geot stuck in the ground or bent. That was the main visible modification made to the tank to turn it into the MkIV.
