Not aircraft related but still cool

40 years ago today at 6:32 AM CDT Apollo 11 lifted off from the Kennedy Space Center on it’s way to the Moon. NASA began streaming the air to ground communications of the Apollo 11 mission at 6:32 CDT this morning and will continue streaming the entire mission. Apollo 11’s LEM, “Eagle”, landed on the moon at 20:17 Zulu (15:17 EST) on July 20th 1969. So try to log on to the NASA stream at 15:00 EST on Monday and listen to to the thrill ride that Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin had.

Armstrong: “Houston, Tranquility Base here. The Eagle has landed.” - Capcom Charles Duke: “Roger, Twan… [correcting himself] Tranquility. We copy you on the ground. You got a bunch of guys about to turn blue. We’re breathing again. Thanks a lot.”

What memories of my youth this brings back. I was about 8 years old when I saw the landing on the moon. I also used to have a record album with those quoted lines. I’d climb into my closet and pretend I was in the space capsule while playing the record. What a time when things seemed much simpler.

Thanks for sharing this.
