Not a model, but....

… I figured some folks here would like to see this.

This is what my wife got me for Christmas- a signed picture of some AVG birds flying in formation!

The signatures are Tex Hill, Dick Rossi, and Bob Layher. And those are real sigs too- not just a print. Got a certificate and everything with it.

And tomorrow an Academy P-40C is due to arrive, and my son gave me some AM decals to build Tex Hill’s bird! Woo-hoo!

I’m planning to do a nice display of the bird and pic together.

That is an awsome pic jwb. I love those old pics. Did you give your wife a big kiss[swg]

You bet! She was so excited to have gotten it- she really did good!

That’s awesome. Great present.

Oh crap. I accidentally “notfied” this thread. Sorry for any inconvenience this might cause.

Gosh darned new fangled forum buttons… grumble grumble…

jon that is awesome. congrats. i think that will be a heck of a display.

Nice, Jon! [tup]

Hey JWB,

Quite the dandy gift there, care to ship it out and around so some of us guys can get a real close up view??? I thought not, no harm for asking. I built just about the whole Hobbycraft P-40C which is what the academy P-40C is without much trouble until I lost some parts. One thing you need to pay attention to is the fit of the chin onto the rest of the nose. Shim it where you need to and use files to shape and blend it and you more than likely will not need putty, I worked mine out with some radioshack 6" files those different cross-sectional shapes come in real handy.Just don’t get too heavy handed with the file and you’ll be surprised at how well it comes out. Congrats on a great Christmas gift and good luck on the P-40

P.S> She’s a keeper for sure! The wife not the pic although it is too!

WOW ! Great photo Jon, Ask your wife when we get ours ? [:-^]

Looks good man, where are you going to be hanging it ?

Bud

Jon, there’s no BUTs here. Not a model, eh? I’ll have to report you!!! [}:)]

Hehe thanks for sharing, Jon. That’s way cool. Maybe you could build 3 P-40s in formation?

Simply put, Jon…that is awesome. I bet you get chills everytime you think about what those men went through. THanks for sharing.

Very cool[tup]

Yup… very cool indeed!

Jon: I know how thrilled you must be with the very special gift. Back in 1988 the newspaper I used to work for sent me to Florida to cover an airshow featuring a Flying Tigers reunion. I stood in awe as I met these men who were heroes. I even broke a journalist’s rule and asked them to autograph the airshow program.
