would this be painted standard RLM Grau or Sand?
…probably be best to base it in Grey and then paint it with dark-brown (sand) to replicate field-application of paint…normally, rear-echelon vehicles got low-priority on camo painting…
The vehicle could also have been left in grey but made very dusty. Early in the campaign most of the tanks didn’t get their paint change until the investure of Trobruk. Replacement vehicles came in the new desert colors. If you look at pictures of Afrika Korps motorcycles closely they only seem to be sun bleached out panzer grey with a heavy coat of dust. Those vehicles that were field painted left a square of the original grey for the placement of the Afrika Korps insignia.
