I am reading the destructions for my build of P-51, and it shows 2 canopies what is the differance between a Dallas-built and a normal canopy. The modle is a P-51D
thank you

the Dallas canopy offers a slight bit more head room for the pilot. it has a slight bulge towards the back of the canopy which affords more room towards the front. later.
Must have made wearing a Stetson easier[;)]

Thank you Salty, now I know the differance.

I know the difference in the designations for the Dallas-built B-models (or rather, the “C”), but does anyone know if there are any actual, tiny structural differences in the airplanes? I’ve always read the Dallas Mustangs and the California P-51s were identical, except for the difference in the D canopies Salty pointed out. Oh, and Salty, I know they call them “Dallas” hoods, but were they really only put on in the Dallas plant? For that matter, did the Malcolm hoods on early Mustangs really come from the Spitfire plant?
