Non "Vehicle" Diorama

“To the Farm / To the Front”

Hello all, finished this one a month or two ago and am just now getting a chance to post some photos. It is a little different (for me) as there are no actual vehicles.

Master Box cart, horses and goat, with an assortment of figures, some of which have Hornet and Legend heads. A scratchbuilt tree and some other items from the extras locations.

Hope you like… All comments welcome, and thanks!

I like it! Tells a simple story, as the title implies. I really like the girl’s interest and the father’s indifference…intentional or not, thats how I see it.

Marvelous!!! To pick a nit, I believe that the farm wagon qualifies as a vehicle. So many points of interest within the diorama, so well done!! [Y]

One word… SUPER!!

SOO-PAH !

I’m envious.

Beautiful work. I like the fall foliage and the allusion to another lousy winter coming for both the farmer and soldiers. The goat is a nice touch. [Y][Y]

Pat.

Excellent job. I like how you added some really small detail to some of the figures. The writing on the sleves.

Beautiful work! [Y] Especially the scratchbuilt tree… I don’t blame the girl for flirting with the soldiers.

Thanks for the replies…

  • Jon, you nailed it. I wanted to give the impression that the old man / father figure could care less about the soldiers in his neck of the woods, so to speak.
  • Mike, I guess you’re right in the wagon being a “vehicle” of sorts… certainly not a self propelled one though, (ha)
  • Jet, I cannot take credit for the sleeve insignia, other than I did attach it. It’s a decal.
  • The tree turned out to be a bit more work than I had planned… I thought I could just sprinkle the leaves onto “glued” branches / stems… No such luck. I had to attach each leaf by hand (oye vey!)

Again, thanks gentlemen and I am glad you liked.

Came out great. Talk about using different techniques to complete a build, horses, wagons and Germans oh my! Thanks for sharing.

I agree. A wagon is a vehicle.

Ok, title change, Almost Non Vehicle,

I was close,

Thanks again guys

This is just beautiful. I’ve always liked dio’s with horses or animals for some reason and the horses are really nicely rendered.

Nice job on the tree, too. When I saw it, I figured you’d hand-attached the leaves!

The juxtaposition of the two main elements in the scene going different ways is a great piece of composition. Just superb!

Thanks doog, appreciate the comments

An excellent diorama! May I ask where you got the leaves from?

Thanks Ryan, and sure thing, the leaves are from Hudson & Allen Studio

They have all different types of leaves and accessories

great Dio Bill. really like the look of the Horses. I would love to put some animals in a Dio, but no idea how to do them. You have really pulled it off. And i agree about the whole composition of the Dio, very nicely done.

Very cool little dio. I love the groundwork and that barrel. Great scene.

Thank you Bish and Tigerman,

Another “fun” part on this scene was getting the horse / harness rigging attached to the wagon. There were a few moments when I was at my wits end… which for me, isn’t all that far.

Appreciate your replies…
