I’ve been working on the 8 inch NOMAD kit from Larson designs.
A very nice kit.
I thought the bottom section was to tall, so I sanded it down a bit.
I got some paint on him today
Tamiya INJ grey and aluminum.
Way cool! Did you know parts of Nomad were used on the M-4 robot and also on the Romulan cloaking device from TOS?
Looks just as sinister now as it will in a couple hundred years!
Wait, wasn’t M5 the big computer on Memory Alpha? And the first time I saw the Romulan Clocking Device, I thought it WAS Nomad.
Yah, they reused a lot on TOS. I think Norman’s control console was also the Lord Garth’s shield control panel.
Daystrom’s M-5 was re purposed into Gary 7’s computer.
I still have to figure out how to paint the recessed “voice” lights and paint NOMAD’s head silver,
and add the top spike.
It’s like “The Enemy Within”, I never could figure out why the Cpt didn’t send down a Shuttle. Then I found out it was the first season and Roddenberry either didn’t think of one or it wasn’t in the budget.
My bad, it was M-4. M-5 was Daystoms computer from The Ultimate Computer.
Looks like a nice kit. Hope you don’t have any “Er-rors” while building. ;D

Yeah Chuck, for the monolith I’d think you’d want a block of smooth plastic precisely what was it - 1 by 3 by 9 in dimensions? And then just paint it gloss black and shine to a super slick surface.
I have the Monolith action figure. Think geek was selling them a few years ago. 1:4:9 ratio.
It has zero points of articulation!

Kubrick actually had two cast in the two-ton version. The first was in clear acrylic and did not photograph well, so the black one was then cast.
Back on topic, I’ve done a little more work on NOMAD.
The voice lights were done with Tamiya clear red/yellow with a micro brush. Nomad is painted Chrome/grey/aluminum.

And Nomad is looking pretty darn awesome too! He/it does have a very '60s high-tech look to him you’ve done a great job replicating.
