Nobody Laugh!

Hey Everyone:

My first pics to be posted!
Not much to be proud of here, though… progress on my 1/44 scratch corsair.

Hope the image quality is okay. I actually just scanned the model itself, as I don’t have a digital camera,

I’ve come a bit further than this: I’ve vac-formed this fuselage, and it looks quite a bit better than the pictures suggest it would. Also, I have the vac-formed cowling finished; and the tail sculpted and ready to be resin-cast.

I’ll try to post them as soon as I borrow my sister-in-law’s camera.

Take care,

Mark

Looking good so far. Keep up the great work.

Laugh? Anybody that attempts to do a complete scratch built, I look upon in awe! Looking good…

Wow, Mark -
Looks pretty darned good so far - that’s dedication - a total scratchbuild.
What are you going to do for wheels and the prop? 1/44 is a rather odd scale - why 1/44?
I’m not giving you a hard time - it’s just that there are quite a number of pretty good 1/48 Corsairs out there. Why the slightly larger scale?

you wont hear any laughing from this desk. you are making something out of nothing. to me that is commendable. and it looks good.

Whose laughing?
Looks pretty darned good to me and I would like to see progress photo’s as well as a finished model.

I want to know why you are doing this in 1/44 also.

Looks good so far.

Regards, Rick

Wow,
Thanks for the kind words, guys.

Well, I’m not sure about the wheels and prop, yet. I think they’ll be carved from balsa (wheels rounded at the end of a drill acting as a lathe, maybe). Then resin-cast. I’m actually more worried about the wings that have a complicated bend and fold, and about how to get the styrene skins over the internal structure. That’s the fun of this, it’s all trial and error. And error. And error.

Speaking of: was originally going to do this in 1/48, but the circumference of the fuselage turned out just slightly too large. It was an easy fix to go to 1/44 rather than continue to sand to the right proportion. Anyway, 1/44 is a more original scale. Why would anyone build a 1/48 scale Corsair when there are already so many good models on the market. LOL.

More pics coming. Take care,

Mark

The dedication required to scratchbuild ANYTHING discounts any laughter… GREAT job thus far, and looking forward to seeing this one come together! Thanks for sharing your work! [:)]

Take care,
Frank

Mark,

Whaddaya mean - nothing to be proud of here ? That’s awesome !

Chris

Awesome, truly awesome, keep up the good work.

cool!! keep us posted. later.

Why do you think so many people DON"T scratchbuild? Keep it up.

Too busy admireing to laugh! I´m way behind your power curve man! Keep it up and show us more!

Anyone who laughs should be shot out a large cannon. That is very good work. You’ve got further than I would ever get on a scratch build job. Keep posting those pics.

Agrees to all of the above, I can just imagine how difficoult it is to schratchbuild something.
Great job! /Johan

I think everybody above hit the target on the mark. A truly fantatstic model, and a worthy subject. I’ve only scratch built pieces and small sub-assemblies, but a whole aircraft in any scale?..YOU DA MAN!

Well thanks again for the encouragement, everyone.
I’m really just shooting for something that’s in the same league as the outstanding work that is posted in this forum by some very talented people (too many to name).

Here’s some progress pics. First, the resin forms and tail sections made from automotive putty and styrene strips. These are rough shapes.

Next, the vacuum-formed bits and baubles. These need to be refined (sanded and filled in places, lines neatened, etc).

The fueslage is showing some fit problems. Gluing is going to be a chore!

Here’s the side view. Next, I need to scribe and add rivets and put on the rest of the surface detail.

All criticism is welcome. As always, thanks for any help!

Take care,
Mark

I wouldn’t be so rude as to criticise, you are way out of my league, truly masterful. Keep it up!!!
