Ok, so this is an idea that will tell us a bit about each other and that I think could be very fun!
The idea is to build a model related to your local state, province, territory, etc. This is not for a model showing your general nationality unless you can do nothing else.
Perhaps it could be a jet based at a nearby airbase or from one elsewhere in your state. Perhaps it could be car with your province’s plates. From Texas? Maybe it could be the “Touch of Texas” P-47, a plane piloted by a Texan, or a T-6 Texan. You probably get the jist. The more you can relate your model to your area, the more fun!
What do you think? (Proposed dates January 1st - December 31st 2023, crossovers allowed, partially started kits under 50% completion allowed)
So many… until recently I was minutes from Miramar for 40 years. I recently finished a V22 osprey out of Miramar. I’m in AZ now so we will have to see what fly’s by. Luke AFB is near but all my gear is in storage until next year when my new house is finished. I’lol be watching. Should be some good stories! Great idea for a GB
Thanks, keavdog! And, who knows? You might still be able to join if it takes off, because I plan it to be next year’s GB (and I’m flexible with finishing times). [:D]
Great! This’ll get interesting! Good to have you both along for the 50-state tour, cbaltrin and Glamdring!
I’ve got Nevada, and a heart set on an aggressor squadron F-5 from NAS Fallon!
Believe it or not, I also have a resin kit for the USS Nevada; but I won’t be doing that one for a LOOONG time. I need a lot more practice before I feel comfortable and willing to build it–wouldn’t want to ruin her! Y’all got kits like that?
Those sound awesome guys! Would love to see that USS Nevada John!
John: I’d still like to do General Early but since he’s only a 90mm figure he shouldn’t take too long. I’d been looking around for something else I might do and found out about William ‘Bill’ Overstreet who was born in Clifton Forge Va, not too far from here.
I’d like to do Overstreet’s P-51B, ‘Berlin Express’ using Accurate Miniatures 1/48th scale kit.
Overstreet was on an escort mission over France when his group of P-51Bs were jumped by a wing of Bf-109s. The Americans engaged and the Germans lured them over Paris where they had strong AA gun positions. While dodging the flak Overstreet got on the tail of one of the German fighters. The panicked German flew his fighter under the Effel Tower and Overstreet followed shooting the Bf-109 down to the cheers of the watching citizens of Paris.
After the war he moved back to Clifton Forge where he worked as an accountant till his death on Dec. 29, 2013. On June 6, 2009 at the National D-Day Memorial in Bedford Va he was awarded the Ordre national de la Légion d’honneur, France’s highest military award by the French ambassador.
I really like this… I built some Florida air guard planes and a F-16 from the 482nd fw at Homestead Air reserve base last year .I’ll find some thing FANG F-102 or a 106 maybe a 1980’s 482nd F4 I’m in the middle of some stuff but I’m in.
