No Gunze in U.S.?

I just tried to order some Gunze Sangyo paint from an on-line hobby shop and they said they no longer carry it because Gunze is no longer selling in the U.S.

Has anyone heard about them not selling in the U.S. anymore? If true, sad to hear it as I really like their acrylic paints for airbrushing.

Brian

I have heard a couple of different versions of why it’s not available right now, but I don’t know if any are true. All I DO know is it’s getting more and more scarce so buy what you can when you can find it!

I really like it too, and try to use it whenever posssible for airbrushing.

Brian,

Squadron.com still lists Gunze Sangyo and the few colors I checked showed in stock. Was it Squadron you were refering too?

Actually, it was Red Frog Hobbies that said they no longer had the colors I wanted in stock. I think there was also one color that I was looking for at Squadron and they were out of it as well.

Gunze products are distributed in the US by Dragon Models USA.

At the present time, Gunze’s products are still listed on Dragon’s website. I have seen some speculation on other sites that there may be a compliance issue with the labelling (being mostly in Japanese) so this may be the reason for the lack of supply.

If you don’t mind ordering from O/S, it may be worthwhile checking out http://www.luckymodel.com/ to see if they have the color you need.

Phil,

Thanks for letting me know about what is happening with distribution of Gunze in the US. I actualy may have found another color that I can use for what I want so I have ordered it from Squadron.

Also, thanks for sending me the link to Lucky Models. Do you know if they are a reputable on-line outlet?

Brian

Hi Brian,

I’ve found Lucky Model to be very reliable, well priced and offer great customer service. There are many on this forum who buy from them.

The only thing to watch out for is to make sure the item you want is listed as “in stock” before you order.

Some items are listed as “available” which actually means they don’t have the item in stock but it is still available from the manufacturer. If you should place an order for such an item, it will be added to their restock order and will arrive in due course when they next restock from that manufacturer.

Cheers,

Phil

I have been checking Squadron for several weeks waiting for them to restock H68 & H69 (RLM74 &75) When I checked Friday they were no longer listed on the site. The only colors they now list are those in stock. It appears once a particular color is sold out they pull it off the site instead of listing it as unavailable.

You can expect to see many products fall under the labeling compliance rulings both here and in other countries. I know that for me to have a distributor within Canada I’m looking at bilingual labeling (French/English) as well as pictures for those who can’t read anyway…like the [xx(] face. By the time you put all of their required info, you have no room left to tell the comsumer whats inside of the bottle!

Thanks Phil for the information on Lucky Models. I did find the orignal color I was looking for from an outfit called Monkey Depot. Although they were out of one of the other colors I wanted.
