I can’t do it. I’ve tried so hard, and yet the future never is right when I’m done. I’ve read Swanny’s article, his site, and the Sticky Future thread hundreds of times. I just can’t seem to get this crap to work well for me. When I spray it, it just “Self Levels” and gathers towards the bottom of my model. It’s driving me [censored] crazy!!! Even when I brush it on, it does the same damn stupid thing. Anyone who could just tell me how they spray it in their AB, would be fantastic. Do you do one light coat…wait a day and spray again? Or do you spray a few light coats with a few minutes in between? Do you ever do a heavy “Wet” coat? How many coats of Future do you put on your model before you decal?? And how many days do you let it fully cure? Thanks everyone, hopefully I can master this crap soon!!!

Try spraying a light coat on then wait 15 minutes and spray another light coat , do that until you achive the effect your looking for , spraying lights coats allows for the Future to settle where it’s sprayed instead of running it’s just like airbrushing , you don’t just goob it on you lightly mist it in light coats . Anyway hope that works for you , thats the way I do it and I’ve never had the problems your having with it .

I’ve put it on too thick before and had it run the way you talk about. I started misting it on and it looked pebbly for the first couple of coats, but after that it build to a nice smooth gloss. It did take me some experimentation though, so just keep misting it on and you’ll get the hang of it.

I’ll ditto what others have said regarding light coats. After dusting on a couple of light coats I will let the Future dry for a couple of hours and then go back and add additional light coats. You can always go back and repeat this until you get the look you want. I used this technique on an F9F, which started with a flat sea blue finish, and it turned out great with a nice gloss sea blue finish. Keep air pressure low --15-20 psi. Don’t give up! Once you get the technique you will love Future.

use Future straight in your airbrush. Don’t dilute it. Spray from about 6-9 inches away form your model on 15-25 PSI, and apply light coats. Let dry for 15-20 minutes and apply another coat, if necessary. Wait about 24 hours for the Future to set before applying decals, and another 24 hours for the decals to dry before coating them.
Good luck. I love using Future, and with enough practice, I think you will too. Keep up posted on the results of your practice.

I’ve just gotten started back into modeling. It’s been about 20 years since I’ve built a plane model.I’ve really gotten into buying kits and reading everything I can on detailing and finishing. I bought some future after reading the articles about it. I just finished spraying a few coats of future in preperation for decals. I didn’t have any problems at all. I made sure to do light coats with about 5 minutes in between. % or 6 coats did it. I’m reading now on how to put the decals on.Any sugestions?

There is tons of info in the decaling forum, but my first suggestion would be a decal solvent such as MicroSol. The stuff is great and will make decals look like they were painted on. There are some other brands that are probably just as good, but MicroSol is the one I’ve used. Get the decals in place, carefully brush a coat of MicroSol over them, don’t worry about the wrinkles, and leave them alone for an hour or so. It will suck them down over panel lines and other irregularities, and vastly improves the appearance of them.
