Some progress here. The photos appear almost black and white, but they are in color. maybe next time I will choose a different background. So far it has been lot of painting and very little assembly. Painting is very straightforward, it is all metallic color.
Great Start Cas
Bob: nice job on your humvee.
Castel: nice looking jeep.
If you would, change my “tba” to Italeri 1/35 Opel Blitz
Thanks Greg! I didn’t even see this post to now, somehow it got past me.
Finally finished this one. Photos were taken in the garden, for whatever reason I just couldn’t get a decent lighting inside. Here she is…
Looks good Cas!
I agree Looks great Cas!!!
Was this part of the Berlin air lift?
Thank you gentlemen. Yes, it was part of the Berlin air lift. I have read a bit about it and thought it would be an interesting subject to build.
Cheers…
yes, I agree, It is intertesting, as it would be the begining of the Cold War .
I hope we can get a Cold War GB going the time comes.
Casternuovo would you mind if I switched my build from Tamiya’s Gama Goat to:
Dragon Kfz.69 6X4 Vehicle w/ a towed Pak 35 in 1/72.
I’ll get started on it on Monday and post some pics.
Thanks, Terry
This a Kfz.69 6X4 Towing Vehicle with a Pak 35 artillery piece in 1/72 by Dragon. I started it this morning and although there are only about 100 parts, they’re all very small. In the one photo, it shows a double rear axle and then I test fitted the front and rear axle to the body and you can see the actual size of the vehicle.
Terry
An update on my Kfz.69, the undercarriage. suspension, wheels and body is almost ready for assembly. Because this is the “No Arms Allowed GB”, I won’t show the artillery piece that I’m saving for a larger diorama all in 1/72 but this little guy is coming along nicely and obviously the challenge are the very small parts. I should give a lot of credit to Dragon for some very nice detail and engineering in their small scale kits.
Terry
Not many here anymore but I’m into final assembly with some very small parts and painting. Should have it completed in a day or two. Terry
A couple more painted photos but a little more is left to do then some weathering. I’ve also included another build on my bench for reference!!! Terry
Wow Terry! I’m not sure how I missed all those updates, but it’s looking good. What is that gargantuan thing behind it?!
Thats a Marines LVTP5A1 for the Marine Anniversary Gb\B in 1/35. I still have some touch ups to do on the paint and finish painting the leather cushions, I tried to give it a weathered look, still at it. I’ll give it an overall wash and paint up some detail. This vehicles tows a Pak 35 artillery piece that I left off because of the "No Arms"nature of the build but I plan to include these pieces in a 1/72 German RR diorama. I have other Braille pieces and a lot of ideas.
A lot of people dropped out of this one, I’m not sure why because its a very cool subject with a million options.
Terry
I agree, there are a lot of cool ideas for this. I have a bunch of kits I could have chosen, but I decided to do the HMMWV I was assigned to when I was stationed in Germany. I saw your train in the World at War GB, very impressive. I can’t wait to see the diorama you’re putting together.
That’s a pretty big vehicle, glad to know it’s in 1/35, I was thinking that was just too big for Braille scale. I thought I was going crazy.
Thanks for the nice words, so why don’t you jump in and do a RR piece. They’re not as difficult as they may look and all the skills you’ve used on armor and aircraft, boats etc can be used and they look really cool on the shelf. I was talking with Wayne a couple days ago and I think theres a ton of cool RR kits to choose from. Take for example a low ride gondola, add a flak 38 some barrels with the track they give you, a base and a figure, instant dio. My problem is I want to do them all “right now” but I have to stick to my plan and get what I need for a 72 dio and another in 1/35 on a smaller scale. That should run me right thru the summer. Thanks again, Terry
I have to admit, I’ve thought about doing one. I thought a diorama of Oddball’s attack on the train yard from Kelly’s Heroes would be cool. One of my students asked if there were any kits of the German rail guns, and I was surprised to see one in 1/35. Too bad I don’t have $900 to spend on a single kit
your talking about DORA the 800mm RR gun. it’s hugh in any scale but batshit crazy in 1/35. check general discussion for pics of a 1/72 one. if you break it down each rail truck is a whole 1/35 tank kit, the gun, the lower cross structure, upper structure, and the ammo handling ( 2 kits) so that is 9 or 10 kits easily.
trumpeter makes a nice K-5 for $120ish plus shipping which i am doing in the RR GB. hobbyboss makes a nice 1/72, better than the hasagawa which i did build. most companies make extra track but, at least in 1/72 it’s better to lay your own. also low side gondola, high side gondola and heavy flat car in 1/35 plus a bunch of armored train stuff.
