Nicholas Trudgian's artwork build

Hello,

I’ve just been emailed a group of paintings done by nicholas trudgian, to put simply, they are incredible

So i got the idea that i’m going to build each aircraft in each of the pictures

if you want to try this with me I’ll email it to you

What theme are his paintings?

If say a BOB (Battle of Britain) theme it would be cool to build a shadow box style diorama with various scale aircraft to make his idea 3d. You could include a copy of his picture in the display title for added interest and the source of inspiration.

Posting his paintings with the first post would help get replies*

Well the cool thing is the theme is from 1939-1945, it includes bombers, nightfighters, dambusters, Luftwaffe, RAF, and US airforce.

yes i tried to post the images but since its an email its kinda tricky i’ll keep trying though

here, I got it now…

Incredible,right?

Very nice paintings, each depicted a historical action fought in the air. The artist liked to include the ground scene as well which may not be completely accurate as most air actions happened at higher elevations.

My favorite is the ‘Battle of the Bulge’ scene showing the initial advance in strength while the Dora 190’s flew over. Once again a lot of artistic merit as the weather was low level fog / snow keeping the allied fighter bombers out of the equation for a week.

The 'Dam busters’ would be the closest to the actual action other than the full moon. The barrel shaped dam demolition bombs had to be ‘skipped’ to the edge of the dam which required low level release.

Defiantly inspiration for building! Post your choice and progress!

Count me in. Subject (s) to follow.

Great to have you join,

I’m going to start with the last man home, depicting a P-51 squadron

that has to be my favorite because of how well he draws the morning sky along with how well he captured the scale of the mustang in flight

Just to clarify… you envision each participant to build the same subject? I can work with that but would rather be free to choose my own. If you get enough interest you could even do a lottery where participants are randomly assigned the subject. I had in mind doing a Hasegawa Hurricane I and P40 E. Let me know how you want to go.

Oh i had no plan in mind feel free to do as you like i just thought this would be pretty interesting project so i’m going to do it on project at a time and i’ll let everyone else decide for themselves

That’s great. I intend to build the exact aircraft in the painting. The research and, of course, finding the markings should be fun. I don’t know anything about the artist but I am assuming he is depicting actual aircraft.

The artist is depicting real photographs i believe(in most cases, this excludeds dambusting and the b-24) and i have already found the squadron markings and the aircraft for the last man home

The 1/32 scale P-51D from hasewaga is just off the shelf and already on the bench, of course finding the exact unit and flight will be difficult this will be fun!!

The paint scheme was flown by Major “Pete” Peterson of the 364th Fighter Squadron, 357th Fighter Group The Yoxford Boys

yeah if you go to nicolas’ website you can learn about all of his paintings

Heres the model

and the engine components airbrushed in alumium titanium and steel metalizers plus the front dash of the cockpit

Heres the guns

And the ammo feeder

Let me know if you want to see something closer

So how are your projects going

I got it painted alluminum and steel while the tail is gloss yellow. The cowling is olive drab and the spinner is not finished but it will be a spiral of gloss red and yellow
