Nice B-32 model by gking86

Here’s three nice photos that gking86 sent me of his Aviation Usk vac kit B-32 model (posted with his permission):

Hope you enjoy!

Bruce

Bruce for posted these for me as I was having trouble doing it. Thanks Bruce. I have been building models for decades and this is one of the more difficult ones I have ever done. Many of the parts did not fit correctly. Following the advice of other builders I used a 1/16 inch dowel through the wings and fuselage for additional support. It’s painted aluminum with a coat of Future was on top to give it the extra shine. The model is very tail heavy. There are weights in the fuselage and in each engine. The small windows were made from black decal paper. Adding the small metal pieces was tricky. I made a small grove for each one with a scribing tool. They glue better that way. The fine black lines on the wings are not painted. I’m not that good. I used a very fine black tape like we used to use in the days of offset printing. It’s border tape. The propellors are not glue in place. This way I can remove them if I ever have to pack the model for moving purposes. The “glass” pieces such as the canopy and gun turrets are held in place with Microscale Kristal Clear. It was also used as a filler as none of then fit perfectly. The original stars and bars decals fell apart. I replaced them with ones from my spares box. I plan to get another kit and see if I can do a better job on it than I did on this one.

Let him know that he did a SWEET Build…

Bud

Or should I have said “You Did a SWEET Build there gking86”

Well Done

Nice 32. My hat’s off to you for sticking with it and finishing. If it was me, I think I would have set it off to the side before going crazy. Good job.[tup][tup]

Very nice. Vacs drive me nuts. I just have too many other plastic injection kits in my stash screaming “I’m easy” to tackle something like this. Great job on the 32. Always thought that plane would look real good between my 29 and PB4Y-2. Gotta build the PB4Y-2 first, then maybe I’ll think of tackling something as challenging as what you’ve accomplished.

Very nice job on the Dominator, Gordon! Maybe one day I’ll start mine, although your comments about the kit don’t instill much confidence in it. I’ve been hoping for a nice injected-molded kit for several years but am not holding my breath!

Thanks, Bruce, for posting the pictures!

Wow. A true modeler in our midst. Not only a vacuform kit, but a hard one at that. AND in natural metal. All injection kit assemblers with their ridiculous over-the-top “weathering” jobs should study this one.

Pat Hawkey

Very nice clean build. Well done [tup].

Build your Vac Kit Mark, & that will guarantee someone will do it in styrene! [:-^]

Happens everytime I start something in Resin…

[wow] you don’t see those every day! Great job! [8D] [tup] [tup]

Very nice. I only know too well how much of a pain in the butt vac kits can be, and you did an awesome job with that one. It is very clean (more of a challenge than a dirty one, sometimes), and looks very nice. Good job!

very nice VAC form kit. well done.

narupol [:D].

I’m hoping that by Gordon building it, this will be what happens!

Thanks for all the nice comments about my B-32 Dominator. It was a true challenge but I do plan to build another one. The kit was delivered on Saturday. It will be a while before I get to it as I am presently scanning 51 years of news and family negatives to disks plus I have other models in the works.

Gking, where did you get that border tape? does it come in other thicknesses and colors? I can see what you mean about the canopy. Looks like a real bear.

You did a real nice job on this one. I’d never seen this plane before. That tail… whoa! No wonder it wanted to sit! Thanks for sharing this one!

Great work on the B-32!
