A short video clip of my 1:24 scale truck diorama. After the video was shot, I had done some minor changes but the overall principle is the same:
Hello Charles!
I think it would be cool to post some stills of your dio here, for people who don’t like youtube (or browse at work, huh, huh), but I took a look on youtube and as usual with your work, I’m impressed. I like how you fulfilled the goal of squeezing all the trucks on a small surface, and all those small details one sees 1:1 almost every day but not so often in a model or dio. Weathering and chipped paint, and your “concrete” are also very good, too!
Thanks for sharing and have a nice day
Paweł
Great job, the vehicle detail, weathering and builds are perfect. I particularly liked the concrete and Graffiti, your Dio’s are so life like I half expected to see an empty bag of Doritos and a can of Coke on the floor of the truck
Hi Pawel. Appreciate your response. I will add photos, as soon as I can take them. Thanks.
Thank you Joe. I do appreciate your kind words.
Thanks for the tour around the dio Tiking!!!
As much as I love your vehicles and figures I really love your concrete. Somehow the way you model the cracks and wear make it look just like the real thing!!! [Y]
Thank you kindly.
My methods:
-
I mixed the tile grout very heavily with water.
-
Spread it on the area of the diorama. I used grout (thick consistency). I did this outside, when the sun was out and let the heat dry the surface of the grout. As this dried quickly, it slowly produced the minuscule cracks you see.
-
Even it out with spreader.
-
Took a sponge and dabbed certain areas with it. I continued to sponge certain areas to give the grainy patches you see in a few of the photos
-
I used a small spreader to draw over the grout to produce some of the half broken concrete patches; sub-levels, and other small u level, rocky crevices you see…
-
Then I used a black wash and let that dried for a day. Then went over it again with the same black wash. Then let it dried for an hour, then went over it with a brown wash. I will go over it again, to knock back the brown again. Will post the complete diorama when done. Hope this helps those who are probably wondering how I achieved this results.
Thanks Tiking! I’m going to have to write your instructions down somewhere- and hopefully not lose it!
Otherwise, you can just ask me again.
Hello, my Friend.
Catch my comments after the clip T.B.
Thanks a lot.
Your attention to detail is nothing short of fantastic. Great job all around. You concrete work is perfect.
Much appreciated
Hey! I have to ask. Is that the POD racer you had entered in the race that Was won by Anakin Skywalker?
Hi there. May I asked what pod racer you are referring? Where do you see the pod racer in the video? Sorry I am a bit confused.
