Next project.......F4U-1D

[:)]Hi everyone,

I went through my kit stash this afternoon and found a 1/48 Tamiya F4U-1D Corsair, what a great kit! It is absolutely loaded with detail and is very well moulded with recessed panels and rivets all over. This kit also gives the options of posing it with folded wings and they’ve also thrown in a tow tractor with figures!

I’ve just started by putting the cockpit and engine together, I’ll post some pics when I’ve painted them. Which leads me to a question, any of you guys built this one before? I’d love any tips you may have[:I]

Darren.[;)]

It is a great kit. I haven’t built the -1D model yet, but I have done a -1A and -1 kits. The fit is generally good, except with the wings. Sometimes it is hard to get the folded section lined up perfectly with the inboard section if you want the wings unfolded. The inserts behind the cockpit can be troublesome as well. But if you take your time, the kit goes together without a problem.

I’ve built all 3 versions of the kit & I have to agree with Daniel. The insert on the rear deck behind the cockpit requires some TLC, and the wings are really designed to be posed in the folded position. If you choose to show them extended, some very careful fitting is required before you glue.

Thanks for your advice guys, its much appreciated. I’m going to pose this one with its wings folded, being pulled by the moto-tug.

I’ve not finished the cockpit yet, when it looks half-decent I’ll take some pics. Its going to take me longer than usual as it’s got so much detail. I’ve also been reseaching cockpit photo’s so I can get it right and It’s taking ages and making my eyes sore! So I need to take a break from it for a couple of hours.

Later,

Darren
