Appears to be a newly-tooled kit by Tamiya, not a knock-off. Love it. Wish they’d do a Crusader.

Saw that on Armorama,looking forward to this one,should be an excellent build as Tamiya has done well with their recent stuff.
I have to wonder what made them choose this rather obscure vehicle? MiniArt did a bang-up job on their release several years ago, and I"d have to believe that whoever wanted one probably got one of those, a big improvement on the previous, ancient Maquette release.
Meanwhile, there’s a slew of big American SPGs and the like that used to line the roads of the Aberdeen Proving Grounds museum that really are a HUGE hole in the hobby, and yet they seem oblivious to that, even when they have the basic hulls and wheels already molded from several (albeit outdated) kits!

Karl, it’s only obscure here to us in the West. The SU-76 was numerically the second most produced AFV by the Soviets in WWII. Second only to the T-34/76. More of these made than KVs, IS’s, ISU’s… And it fought again in Korea under NKPA colors, with some even being captured and turned against their former owners by the ROKs once the tide of that war turned.
But yes, it would be nice to see all those holes in the US SP guns filled in 1/35 armor kits.
Yeah as SP said it was one of the most commonly used SPGs of the war. I gravitate to more ‘sexy’ stuff like the ISU-152 but the 76 did serve for way longer and was much more common.
Since it was based on a T-70 hull I wonder if Tamiya will be releashing one of them as well?

However, my comment was not so much grousing about it’s obscurity or not, but the fact that there’s already a good reporesentation in 1/35 out there. Seems like it would be nice if these companies would go after “fresh meat”, if you know what I mean.
And I’ll say it again: the last thing we need is another new Tiger… [:)]
I’ll say yes and no to this third option for the new Suchka. There is the old Alan/Maquette/Dragon kit, which is clunky, but builds up ok. You commented on mine earlier this year. Then there is the newer Miniart kit that is supposed to be highly detailed, but very fussy/finicky. At least that is what I hear from our AMPS guys. This new Tamiya kit should give us a well engineered, well fitting, highly detailed kit that most likely will put the other two on the clearance or kit collector tables.
But yes, you are very correct about us not needing another Tiger, or Mk.IV, or whatever that has been kitted multiple times.
I’ve been hoping a new model of the SU-76. I’m glad to hear the good news.
And Dragon is still catering to us US Cold War arnor fans with several new announcements in 1/35: M60, M60A2, and a T54E1 (a very funky looking beast). I am really looking forward to the M60, which is WAY overdue in 1/35!
Yeah, I"m looking forward to that too, and especially the new M60-A2. That should be a huge improvement over the old clunker!
