here it is guys,OOB,had a lot of trouble with the canopy masking so i had to strip it and hand paint it
also my first attempt at the FSM tarmac base
man!,that canopy really does look bad ,now that i see the pics out in the world for all to see
A very well done build. The decaling on the fuselage and the tarmac diorama is top notch. Don’t sweat the canopy.[^]

I think you did a good job on the canopy, it doesn’t look bad to me at all.
Swanny has a really good method of masking canopies on his website, you should check that out if your not satisfied hand painting them. His website is www.swannysmodels.com . You can find the article in his tips and hints area.

Excellent job on this bird, especially the detailing on the crew! I envy anyone who can paint at this incredible level! Don’t even be concerned about the canopy - those greenhouse jobs are a bear at best!

forgot to mention that the TA-667 on the fuselage and 90667 on the upper and lower wings were created on my PC,because all the model sheet supplied was the small tail number and all the ref photos i found on the net showed very big numbers on the side as well
Lone, overall it is a very nice job. The canopy frames do detract from the rest of the work. Please take that as constructive criticism. Try this. Take a toothpick and shave the point into a chisel shape. Then scrape the paint away that got onto the canopy areas beyond the frames. The toothpick is wood and generally will not scratch the plastic. Once you have the frames and canopy cleaned up apply a coat of Future.
You could also have used yellow decal material to apply to the canopy frames. Just cut it into strips so that when applied the frames are covered. Decal materiasl can be painted with light coat of color to match the desired color before the application.
Another alternative is to mask the frames with Bare Metal Foil or thin strips of masking tape. I cut the tape into strips with a metal straight edge and a fresh Ex-Acto blade. Mask one section of frame at a time and apply the paint in light coats sprayed from a distance. Let the coats dry in between coats, and do not spray “into” the edge of the tape. It also helps to apply a clear coat first to prevent paint from “bleeding” under the tape.
Keep up the good work and remember “when you build the perfect model it is time to quit”. I started building almost 50 years ago and aint quit yet. So, I haven’t built the perfect model yet either.
Rangerj has got it right. Follow his advice and you’ll get great results. One more thing though: the kit would greatly benefit from having the canopy frames painted with the colour you used inside the cockpit. This would be more accurate and reduce greatly the ‘transparency’ effect that you have because of the light colour scheme outside.
Other than that, congrats on this build.
Rangerj beat us all to the punch. A good toothpick job to the canopy will turn this into an A+ build. By the way, great work on the tarmac. It’s something I’ve yet to try, but you’ve provided motivation with your postive results.
I was having trouble with masking a canopy, and decided to mask it the hard way- one frame line at a time. It was a 1/72 scale piece, with very minimal frame lines to work off of. Even using foil to mask it wasn’t working.
I simply used the flat edge of the masking tape, lined it up to one side of a canopy frame line, then used another piece for the other side of the frame line. I painted it, let it dry, and repeated the process. It took about a week, but I ended up with a masked-quality canopy and kept my sanity.
Now I evaluate the canopy first, so I can be prepared to do a line every day. By the end of the build, it’s finished. And it’s dead simple.

It worked very well. I’ve got a 1/72 TBF coming up and it’s canopy looks like a freakin’ aviary. And it’s tiny. (At least for my eyes, even with the 2x specs) I’ll probably use it on that one.

i usually have no problems with the canopy maskin,i use Ambriod EZ mask,but this time after a coat of interior green to match the inside,a coat of white for a base,a coat of chrome yellow,and a flat coat, the mask just wouldn’t release,so i opted for the cheesy,hurry up! thing(i know it’s wrong) i cut the single piece canopy into multiples,then just hand painted the yellow,so that i wouldn’t have to do it three times in a row,green ,white,yellow,i’ll take the three lashes on this one guys…lol,it won’t happen again,i’m stocking a variety of different masking type products this weekend,so that i’ll have more of a choice
