Just got back into models and have a question. I am building the Revell Pirate ship and under colors it said to use 80% of one color and 20% of another. Do you mix according to this formula or is it something else. Thanks in advance

If that’s what the mix is asking for that brand yes. If it’s a color I have in another brand I use that

Revell, Tamiya, and Airfix/Heller often give paint callouts in their own brand of paint. Competitor or other brands are often not cited. But if they call what the end color may be, like hull red, you may be able to come up with an off the shelf solution

Yes, 80% of color one and 20% of color two means that you mix 8 drops of one and 2 drops of two – or 4:1 or 16:4. Volume mixes, generally not by weight

And in this case, you can absolutely paint the thing whatever colors suit your fancy.

I’d paint the sails a dirty linen looking color.

Bottoms of ships wrre only copper on military and some top line commercial ships, so you can paint the bottom red, white, green.

Topsides I’d use lots of dark gray (scale black) as the easiest way for finishing would be to smear tar all over, or just let it go.
