Newbie here looking for a good start (building a Peruvian Mig 29)

Hello everybody. I want to start my adventure into the scale modeling world with a Mig 29 scale model and making it into a Peruvian Mig 29s.

I already have the decals all I need is the model. I have both 1/48 and 1/72 Aztec decals and I’m looking to purchase either size model. So far I haven’t found a good deal on the web. Ebay gave me very little options. I’m hoping to find help here in terms of finding a good web retailer that may have this specific model.

Also, i’m looking to purchase all the basic tools to make this first model… like glue, paint, etc. So I need to know what are the best options for this and the best place to buy them on the web.

As a newbie, I know i’m asking for alot of help. But i’ve noticed, while lurking for a few weeks now, that everybody here is very friendly and helpful so I hope to get the same treatment. [:)]

Thanks in advance! [8)]

Hi there peruytu,

If you’re looking for a MiG-29 in 1/48th you could do far worse than picking up the Academy kit, either the Fulcrum A or Fulcrum B.

For a place to shop on the web have a look at the following sites, they have just about everything you need.

http://www.greatmodels.com

http://www.squadron.com

http://www.meteorprod.com

I have bought from all of these stores and had no problems.

Cheers
Darren

For 1/72 Italeri or zvezda are very decent at the least.

Great links… thanks Darson! [:)]

Thyamis: If Italeri and Zvezda are considered decent out of all the 1/72 makers, which ones do you think are the BEST out there?

I’m looking at one of the sites Darson gave me, Greatmodels.com (great prices by the way), and there’s so much that I want. I’m looking for at 3 makers right now and 3 types of aircrafts. Maybe you guys can help me out with this.
Aircrafts i’m looking to get for the 1/72 size are Mig 29 (UB), Mirage 2000, and the F22 Raptor.
Greatmodels sells all three of these made by Italeri at the 1/72 scale. Should I get all three of these or are there other makers that are alot better than Italeri? Other choices that Greatmodels.com has are Revell Germany, Zvezda, Heller and Easter Express.
At the 1/48 scale, I could only find Academy models for the Mig 29. Is Acadamy the best for the 1/48 scale?
Thanks! [:)]

I’m not really a jet guy so can’t help with your model selection but do want to welcome you to the forum and to the hobby.

Another good place to buy kits and other stuff on your list is www.modelmecca.com

Thanks kaleu!
But i’m looking at all the sites and so far, nothing compares to greatmodels.com’s prices! They’re incredible! Unless they get you with the S/H , but i’ll soon find out I guess… as soon as somebody helps me with some of my previous questions.

Edit: A quick addition to my previous questions - How good are the Hasegawa kits?

Hasegawa kits are usually very good. Italeri, although not as good as Hasegawa, are a good place to start.

I moved this into the aircraft forum and added to the title. Good luck on your first adventure and may this be the first of many more to come. [:)]

Yes… but be sure that your kit is a Fulcrum-C version, I mean Mig-29SE… I think Condor makes this model in 1/72, or you can get the Academy kit (In both scales) and modify it with the Neomega conversion set… I’m Peruvian, and I know that FAP (Fuerza Aérea del Perú) haves Fulcrum-C and not Fulcrum-A, like Italeri’s kit… for the training version… you can get any Mig-29UB…

David Voss: Thanks for putting this thread in the right forum… but, I was going crazy looking for it. Other forums that do this usually leave the original thread in the original forum but when clicked it send you to the other forum where the thread was moved to. I’ve never been part Snitz forums, I heard its good but never used, but i’m sure there’s a way to change it so that people dont go crazy next time looking for their original thread. The way i found it was i went to my profile and found the list of posts there… thats where i found out that it was moved.
Again, thanks for moving this since the thread did kinda change. But it would be a great idea to add a feature where it tells you exactly where the thread was moved to. Thanks.

Anyways back to the topic at hand:
zeroenma, thanks for the tip. Yes, the Peruvian FA does have both UB and C. But the C is rediculously hard to find. All I find for the 1/72 are the UBs. A and B are only made by Academy at the 1/48 (correct me if i’m wrong). Now, i’ve never heard of the SE, this is new to me. Myabe you can lead me as to where I can find this version. Gracias causa!
