Hi. Actually, I’m not a newbie per say. I’ve done some modeling when I was younger (I’m 39 now) and have just now gotten interested in resuming this rewarding hobby. [yeah] I’ve always wanted to do a diorama, but all I have done in the past is mostly muscle cars and movie monsters.[}:)]
I’ve been looking at the diorama posts and am getting excited about doing a dio now. Something in the VietNam War era. Can anyone suggest some dealer sites that I can get some VN era kits for relatively cheap? ( I live in the hills in S. Ohio where there’s nothing around but cows and horses [C):-)], lol.) It’s a looooonnngg drive to the nearest hobby store, so most of my buying will be done online.
Well, here’s to happy modeling–looking forward to posting and building for years to come!! [:D]
Was also wondering if anyone knows of any modeling clubs around Columbus, Ohio area.
Welcome to FSM, Chad. Dragon and Academy (and even Tamiya) have some good Vietnam Era vehicles and figures. You might want to check some on-line hobby shops for details.
Thank You all for the warm welcome [^]!! Looking forward to increasing my knowledge from all you experts here.
Actually I did find the Dragon and Tamiya websites and I really like Dragon a lot. The only problem is, they have a few kits from the American side, but hardly anything from the VN side. Does anyone know of any strictly VN model sites (if there are such a thing)? I’m still searching for the elusive VN rice paddy village, lol [(-D]. The smoke is just pouring from my ears, hehe, the gears are churning [:P]. Thanx again in advance for more info.
I’m not to sure about any sites that sell anything on the VN side of things. Verlinden might have a village scene, though I’m not sure. Maybe someone else can help you out with this…if all else fails make a post in the Dio forum.
I know most of the weapons and some of the vehicles used by the vietcong were soviet or east bloc…
Thanx for the warm greetings everyone. As for subfixer’s reply, I’m still doing research on the small things like the bicycles and such. As I said on other forums, I’d like to do a village scene with either side rolling thru/taking over the village for operations or something like that. Any ideas on creating huts? I’ve heard balsa wood, but weren’t most covered with thatch or something? Any ideas there? Anyhow, I have some brain storming to do, but thank you all for your suggestions and help. I don’t want to seem like I’m not doing my own work, but, I’m kinda new at a dio of this magnitude and am just gathering ideas and info.
Also, still wondering about any modeling clubs in southern Ohio. Found one in Akron where I used to live [banghead] Grrr.
